Question about Eureka WhirlWind Litespeed 5844 Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

Belts keep breaking

Hi, I have a Eureka WhirlWind LiteSpeed. I love this vacuum and really don't want to abandon it for a new one. When I changed the belt after it broke, the new one broke almost immediately. I put it off to a fluke and installed the 2nd belt (2 in a pack). The 2nd belt worked fine for awhile, then broke. I bought more belts, same exact thing would happen. First belt breaks almost immediately, 2nd will work a little longer. Tonight, however, both belts, both brand new out of the pack broke as soon as I started vacuuming. I am meticulous about cleaning the rollers, changing the filters, and emptying the cannister.

Please help me. What could this be?

I never did find out what the problem was. But I found a good solution. Instead of using the recommended belt size, I use one slightly longer and thinner. Works great on keeping the belt from breaking, every now and then it does come off though. I just open it up, put it back on, and keep vacuuming. I've never seen another vacuum with the power and suction as this one, so I'm willing to do this for a little longer.

    Thanks for the help.

Check the brush roll ends to see if they have melted or frozen. They should turn freely, part #361869-1. Make sure the belt isn't being pinched somewhere.

Eureka Model Whirlwind litespeed. The rotart brush does not turn or rotate. Should it turn or rotate in order to give better suction?

Hello fnintel, yes, if you are using the upright vacuum it should spin, ( the belt likely slipped off, or the brush is clogged with hair and the likes.)
However, if you are using the hose on the vacuum like a shop vac, some models bypass the rotary brush.
Good luck!

The bristles aren't rotating. Is there an easy solution to this?

The belt probably broke. Simply purchase another belt and replace. These belts are made for much stress, and if you've had the vacuum for even a month, they can easily break.
It may also have slipped off the motor shaft, causing the brush to spin freely.

The vacuum roller won't turn but the belt is fine Eureka Whirlwind Litespeed

The belt may look fine but it's probably stretched out. Rubber belts are usually good for about 1 year. The tension of the belt is what allows it to turn under the strain of the carpet. Make sure the brushroll spins freely when held out of the machine. Eureka brushrolls are prone to melt down on the end caps. If that has happened you will need a new one.

My Eureka Lite speed whirlwind has a bad odor when it runs.

It is either the filter or on the roller or belt.
