My dvd recorder DMR-EZ45VEBS COME UP ERROR CODE U80

My 18 month old DMR - Ex 85 sometimes (seven times) goes into U80 error mode with the screen light green, since upgrading my aerials/ leads the same occurs except the screen is pale purple. I have to turn the power off the player, then on again & wait a few minutes for the "Hello" sign to disappear & the unit to continue. It never happens when the unit is recording.

It's driving me nuts!! About 50% of the time I set the unit to record, it fails to do so because of the U80 error message! Have tried switching auto-scan off and to no avail. Can anyone else out there help?

I get this too, and a little research brought me lots of anecdotes but nothing concrete, but here's was I deduce from the stories...

The unit has an auto-scan feature that periodically checks for new services or channels. Sometimes when it adds one it encounters and error and hangs showing U80. When you're recording it seems the auto-scan doesn't interrupt, so your program will complete. I've had several failures of timed recordings when the unit has stalled before recording was due to start.

Try switching the auto-scan off...

Functions > Others > Display > New service message

Hoepfully that will resolve it, though you will need to manually scan for new services periodically to make sure you don't miss out. At least you'll be on hand if it fails so it won't sit showing U80 for hours!

DVD recorder DMR-EX78EB - Keeps showinf error message 'U81' on display. This means that it does not perform set recordings. What causes this please and how can we fix it as I am fed up with finding...

This is one of several error codes generated by the main microprocessor IC which are tripped by corruption, preventing proper operation and which may require the processor to be reset (where practical) or replaced.

The U81 and U80 codes don't mean anything in particular because the corruption error(s) could be caused by a number of different reasons. It does not point to any specific one fault. This is where the confusion sets in as to the origin of the 'error codes' in any device.

U81 means (in technical terms) 'microprocessor communication malfunction' on the universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter' or 'microprocessor feedback information error'.

This is not something the user should undertake to repair themselves; it should really go to an authorised Panasonic repair centre. The cost depends on the parts used and the labour, however, it is not unfixable. You can always get a quote on this and a second opinion, then decide for yourself if it is economical or not.

I posted this 'advice' for this (and a similar) model previously. The DMR-EX series of models are prone to U81 - which is a common (and extremely irritating) error code. As I said, it is not unfixable, if you are prepared to spend a fair amount of money on the repairs by a qualified service technician in a fully equipped workshop with access to all the required components and service manuals.

Certainly worth investigating at least.

I would like to download the English version of the manual (PDF) for the Panasonic DMR-EZ 45V Video/DVD recorder combo

The manual is available from Panasonic: http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Support/Downloads/220239/index.html#anker_220239 . When I fill in the DMR-EZ45V, I got manuals for the DMR-EZ45VEB and DMR-EZ45VEBS.

Additional models are available from the Panasonic UK support site.

I hope this helps.

Switched on my panasonic DMR EX79 HDD/DVD recorder and came up with a U80 code (did not start up properly). Followed the troubleshooting guide in manual by turning machine on and off but this does not fix...

Check that C1801 is not leaky. If so, check if IC1801 has blown. If it has blown, it will also need to be replaced.

Usually it's only C1801 leaky, replace it and thats it.

You can find the capacitor on the main board, under the digital board that has ribbon cables going to the dvd drive.

Hope this helps.

Error U80

Hi all smilerand here, an update

Although my unit had a new drive fitted paid for by panasonic. This did not solve the problem. It turned out to be a back end printed circuit board(PCB), which panasonic paid the costs of.
So this PCB could be the problem with all your units if this is any help

Error code u61 will not clear, unable to reset the DMR-EZ45VEBS

Hi, there was no solution to my problem with the error code U61, having talked to a Panasonic repair center it would cost £180.00 to fix this unit as the board and DVD recorder have to be replaced as one unit. It would cost me around £160.00 to buy a new one so there was no point in having it repaired.
