I'm trying to run the game on my brand new Macbook pro and after the logo screens appear the screen is black but the sound is still playing. I can mouse over the options and click on them to get to the next screen (i had this game on my pc I remember the sounds) and the screen is still black. The first movie plays fine but the screen goes black again when gameplay starts.

If still having this issue:
1. Take battery out of MBP(unless still under warranty, then let Apple Store fix it)
2. Hook up Power Adapter
->If works normal, your battery may be defective(this happens)

If you've already tried turning up the brightness of the screen (the "sun" icon), then you may have a problem with the backlight (possibly burnt out, in which case you'd need a new backlight bulb). See this post for more details:

just turn off your Macbook. wait in seconds and turn on.

startup and regular sound White screen appears but no apple logo appear ,
1) smc have been reset multiple times. possible motherboard video hardware issue cause over heating.
2) hold option key switch on laptop it will be see hard disk or DVD drive (apple disk inside) icon, the motherboard good if icon appeared. and the motherboard video dead if not appear. hope to help a little

Does the Apple logo or the Pinwheel show on the screen?

There is a problem with you OSX installation. Please boot from the Recovery partition (hold Cmd+R during the startup chime), and use Startup Disk to choose the correct hard drive to boot from.
You can also restore from a backup, and not lose your data here as well.

try and external lcd/monitor and see how it works out for you. either a cabling issue with the lcd, the lcd, or the inverter of the screen.

That is most likely a defect in the LCD itself... there was a huge issue with this on the older PowerBook series - like shown in this picture, 3 roughly dime-sized circles to the right of the Apple logo. If you need a place to mail it to, iResQ has done wonders for many of my friends - link is for mail-in, but they sell the screen itself as well if you want to try on your own (but take it from me, it's a bit troublesome and easy to mess up cables - I repair these for a living). What firmware are you running?

Sounds like corrupted game data to me.

try to make sure that the resolution and connections are appropriate for your screen at your home. if these settings are alreay correct then you should probably just return the system and try to get one from somewhere like amazon or ebay. sorry. Hope you get a good ps3!
