Hi, I have the Inspiron B130...and have 2 questions I can't seem to figure out. If I go to start and hit turn off computer the stand by button is not lit up and doesn't let me click it. Also, if I simply shut the lid on my lap top and re-open it I cannot get anything to appear on the screen. I am sure that my settings in the control panel say to do nothing when I shut the lid, is there a certain button on the keyboard to get the screen up and running once I shut the lid? Any help would be greatly appreciated......thanks

I suggest a full and complete re-install of your Windows software use the disk that came with the computer make sure that the BIOS is set to boot from CD or DVD whichever is installed and reboot install the software and format the disk removing files especially .dll files is a no no. Who knows what else is messed up so reboot and reinstall this will solve everything for you. Especially if you are asking this question in a forum great question however by the time you figure it out you could have re-installed software and been done with it. Just a suggestion!
Question not quite clear enough If you are referring to logging on to windows, try following If you running Xp, try running as the administrator. To do this start computer and start hitting F8 key straight after first screen to get boot menu up, select safe mode. Once log on screen comes up select Administrator, should have no password. From there you can change or remove all user passwords and change any rights/permissions that have been set to any drives or folders
If you have password when you first turn computer on, you're potentially in trouble and will need to BIOS reset; some laptops have a reset switch on bottom otherwise it will need pulling apart
boot computer when it first starts up push F8 for advance menu. in advance menu select last known good configuration. hit enter . if the computer ges to desk top do a system restore . to before the issue started. if this fails you will need the windows disk to do a system repair. your configuration may be corrupted.
you need to enter setup by tapping one of the f keys or the delete key. i'm not sure which it is for this model. when you enter the bios setup change the boot order to boot to the dvd first. hit f10 and save the change then reboot with your install disk in the drive. it should start installing.
try booting from a cd like the reinstall cd for windows that came with the computer. when starting hit F12 to show 1 time boot menu; select cd drive; hit any key when asked to boot from cd. This will tell you if its a software or hard drive problem.
Power off your computer, then power on hitting F12, del or whichever key it states to go into setup. From the setup menu, select change boot order or boot menu. Set the CD ROM to the first boot device. Save changes. Restart. Your computer should boot to cd starting the installation.
don't hit ctrl, f11 instead hit F8 and then go into Dell Factory Image Restore, that will wipe, format and reinstall all the factory software that's stored on the Recovery Drive (usually the D: drive) good luck.
