Question about HP Compaq Presario C304NR Notebook

Won't turn on at all

Our dog chewed the power cord while it was plugged in and it stopped working. We replaced the power supply and the battery since it went a long time without use after all that. It still will not power up. No lights at all showing on the laptop and battery will not even heat up after trying to charge it for several hours. Charge light on the power supply works as it is also new. Actually we bought 2 extra power supplys. Neither turn the laptop on, even tried with the battery. Is this going to be an expensive fix or better buying a new one?

No dog chewed my power cord, but one day the laptop stopped working.

I bought a new power ac adapter to no avail. I saw a motherboard for sale for $250.00. I bought the laptop for $299.00.

If he chewed far enough into the cord that it shorted out, then the power supply would have been killed instantly, but not before taking out the motherboard on the laptop with it.

The motherboards for laptops are rediculously expensive and a new laptop would be the way to go.

The next best option is to hunt around on eBay and look for one that has been dropped and had the screen smashed. You could salvage the motherboard from it, or transfer your screen the other way.
The good news is, people will pay good money for dead laptops on eBay for that very reason, so you could always sell yours there to help cover the costs of a new laptop.
Sorry for the bad news

lol, did the dog have a black nose, & whiskers missing.
& a bad case of sneezes....lol.
that's a new one on me, but a funny one.
you say you bought a new power supply? was that the full thing or just part of it?
if part of it & it was the plug side, then silly question but have you checked the fuse & wall socket....
if thats all good, the next you'll wanna check the top of the capacitors inside the console, swipe your finger over them, they should be perfectly flat & not domed up in any way, if they are replace with EXACT same type, some people think" if i put a bigger size capacitor in it will stop it blowing so easy again" NOT TRUE.
look for the obvious....black on board, & smell of burnning..
good look

Is the new cord/charger/transformer the EXACT same power specs? When your "dog ate your charger", it may have shorted out something in the Laptop? Was it plugged it when your dog ate it?

Dog chewed power cord. how do I repair

assuming this is a window air cond? It is not safe to use electrical tape, duct tape or any other kind of tape on a power cord to cover bare wiring. Many times I have cut the cord short enough to cut out the place where chewed and gone to a hardware store where I can get a new cord end that matches the wall plug and wire it in to the shorter cord. If this is not possible, you will need to either make a new cord or try to find a cord at an appliance supply house.

My dog chewed my power cord. Dh "spliced" and taped for now. The laptop will work with power cord, but battery will not hold ANY sort of charge. Is the problem my cord or the battery now?

ask the dog.....!!!
ok sorry jokes apart...

was the battery working before ur dog helped u out...
remove the power cord and check how long ur battery can hold on till it dies down...when ur notbook is ON

if it holds for more than 10 mins then the battery will charge if the power cord gives it enough power to charge, else u may have a power adaptor that gives enough for notebook to work but not enough for the battery to charge at the same time....
u may have to change both the adaptor and battery....or else change the dog...ha ha ha...
u r the best judge....ask the dog to do some work on it may be......
just kidding....

Remember this is a DC output...Make sure you have the right wire hooked together. What I mean is if you soldered the wires make you didn't reverse the negative and positive. Otherwise look for a new power supply.
I have had to replace mine a few times.

Dog chewed the electric plug

Your local appliance shop should be able to hook you up with a replacement cord. Slicing another cord onto the existing cord would nullify the UL listing for the appliance, void your homeowners policy, and would probably put you in line for a Darwin Award. In addition, beating a poor dumb animal with a power cord like the other guy suggested is just plain cruel.
