Question about Samsung SPH-M500 Cellular Phone
You need to have the flexcable in the phone replaced.

I was able to fix this by using a paper clip to scrape out dust from in between the two parts of the phone (screen/keypad), taking out the battery, waiting for 30 minutes or so, and then putting the battery back in and booting the phone.
