I just bought a Panasonic DMR-E95HS and a 50 spindle of TDK 8X DVD-Rs. I recorded a show to the hard drive and tried to dub it to DVD. The DVD recorder immediately goes into "self-check" mode and then rejects the DVD-R. I called the 800 number and the automated recording says to try another brand of DVD-R including Panasonic brand DVD-Rs. The automated message also says that the unit is working properly when this happens and that the rejected DVD-Rs are not manufactured to proper tolerances. Silly me, I thought that TDK was a premium brand of recordable disk media.
Has anyone else run into this problem? What brand of DVD-Rs are the best?
-   Exact same problem with tdk discs and my Panasonic DMR-EZ48V. What is stranger still is that it will record when I manually press on the record button but won't record scheduled programs. Off to best buy for some verbatim discs I suppose.

In article <1yQ5e.7665519$f47.1407 @news.easynews.com>,
That's because TDK makes their own CD-Rs with coatings they developed. But there are very few DVD manufacturers with almost all brand names using other to make them for them. I understand that some are made with coatings specifed/shipped by the brand-name company so that disks from the same plant may not be the same.

Interesting. I trade CD-Rs with some big traders and TDK is considered on of the best brands. I guess you can't assume that the same goes for DVD-Rs.
Thanks. That's what I needed to know.

My DVD recorder is on top of my Sony 32" TV right now, but it doesn't get hot up there. I'll try a spacer and see what happens, anyway.
$20 at Best Buy.
Good suggestion. Thanks.

I just traded my TDK 50-pack for a Verbatim 50-pack (happened to be $20 today at Best Buy) and the first Verbatim disk is recording right now. Thanks again, maiet.

My 95 has done this a few times, but in my case it was simply over heating sometimes due to being in the middle of a Satellite receiver and a VCR, it was like a bleedin furnace at times when I opened the disk tray. After I seperated all the gear with some spacers to allow air flow, problem was sorted, or maybe the machine just saw me coming with ma screw driver and big hammer. You bought 50 TDK DVDs, how much did that cost ya? Just get Datawrites 5 to 7 quid for 25, the TDKS are over priced and nothing special, always check disks for any flaws before use no matter what brand they are and dont get the slightest mark on the recording side, if in doubt bin the disk its no great financial loss.

tdk are rat shit with panasonic recorders dude. Dont worry, just never use them again!!! I use Verbatim, sony, imation, even cheap ritek and ridata. I have a E100, E85 and an old E55, tdk is crap in all of them, except for those new Amour plated tdk's, they are fine, but expensive!!!!!

Hello, Out of the blue my Panasonic DMR-895H stopped receiving audio to my HDD drive. I went away for a mini vacation and when I returned no sound. I am connected to a Comcast cable box. When I attempt to watch tv using the HDD drive, no sound. When I attempt to copy a program from the Comcast box to the HDD drive, no sound. I moved it to another Comcast box in the house with the same result - no sound! When I turn the volume way up I can faintly hear sound. Any suggestions?

Same recording problem as other poster. It seems somehow tied to the program schedule or time periods somehow. It will rarely record shows scheduled between 5-8pm on Sundays. Even if I set the time to record and duration manually vs. selecting the show in the TV Guide program schedule. Anyone else have this problem? Also sometimes recently it will not start recording until 15-20 minutes into a 60 minute scheduled recording. Have the latest firmware that i could get downloaded and installed from Panasonics crappy site. Thanks in advance.
