Need updated map that will tell us the right lane to be in.

we would llike to know how much it would cost to update the maps on our Street pilot c330. We want to have access to know which lane togo in. Our present one does this. When looking at new garmins we seen that many just give the street name. We need to go the cheapest way.
Thank you

You cannot install features in your unit that it was not designed for. Updating the maps will NOT install Lane Assist or any other feature found in newer Garmin models.

The feature you are looking for is called "Lane Assist" on Garmin units. You can look the webpage below and check the boxes of features that interest you:

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134

There are 15 models that support the Lane Assist feature, add more checks in boxes of other features to reduce the number of devices that have ALL the features desired. Prices shown are the manufacturer's suggested retail - but you may find them for much less in stores. Additionally, factory refurbished models carry the same warranty, but ONLY when purchased from an AUTHORIZED Garmin reseller - most of which can be found on eBay.

I have a street pilot C330 Garmin - I am trying to update with the latest maps, etc - but I am confused on how to do this. Please help - I am very happy with this Model and mostly because it is user...

Register your Garmin at MyGarmin.com - from here Garmin guides you to download the webbrowser plugin to communicate with your Garmin StreetPilot C330 over a USB cable.

When your Garmin StreetPilot C330 is connected through your webbrowser - it will show compatible map updates. These can be ordered on DVD or downloaded.

Note that downloading the map update will take a very long time and requires at least 5 Gb of disk space on your PC/Mac. The internet connection needs to be fast and stable enough to complete the huge download. Otherwise its better to order the update through DVD.

I have had my street pilot for about 2 1/2 years and it says i need to load new maps. i am satisfied with it the way it was. i dont need new maps. it wont come up. is there anything i can do?

Garmin releases new maps yearly and have their devices programed to give you a message telling you to update them. You dont have to update them, and its only suggested if there is quite a bit of new construction where you live or your planning a road trip. If you are happy with it now then just ignore it.

Go to www.garmin.com and read about "Map Updates" Enter your unit's serial number and see if there's a newer map available. It will explain about how to buy and install the update.

Putting maps on sd memory card

(Untried)
For C330 owners that want to have both Canada and US 2008 map update on their GPS this is what you have to do.

Must have:
1 - Street pilot C330

2 - 512mb SD card
3 - SD card reader of some form (some cameras will suffice)
4 - Garmin 2008 Map Update North America

What to DO:

1 - connect the GPS to the computer
2 - Insert the Map update disk
3 - Install the Lower 48 states, United States
(Reason - the C330 has around 1000mb of memory and the "US 48 states" map uses around 900mb" while Canada uses 400mb...which is why you will need that 512mb SD card later)

4 - Once the GPS is updated with the US map. Browse the Map update disk contents. This can be done with going to "My Computer" right click on your CD/DVD drive and click on "Explore"

5 - Open the folder called "img"

6 - Copy the file called "gmappromU.img" file is around 430mb. (This is the map file for Canada)

7 - Insert your SD card into your card reader and connect it to your computer. A window should pop up. If not you should see it on your "My Computer"

8 - Once you have navigated your way into the SD card directory. Create a folder on the SD card named "garmin" (no caps)

9 - Go into your newly created "garmin" folder right click and paste the "gmappromU.img" file. (This may take upto 20 to 30 mins)

10 - Once the process is complete, Rename the "gmappromU.img" file to --> "gmapsupp.img" (watch for spelling, no caps at all)

11 - Remove the SD card, Turn off your GPS, Insert SD card into GPS.

12 - Turn on GPS, let it load, and there you have it, the FULL North America Map.

When you are searching a state or province (depending where you are located) it will give you an option which map to use, Canada/Alaska or the lower 48 US states. Select your map and you are set to Go.

Cracked screen on Garmin street pilot 330

Given the cost of buying a new LCD with touchscreen is about $130 USD + shipping. Your best solution is to sell the existing unit and buy a new Nuvi or recondition C330.

Garmin will repair the unit for $150 and provide the lastest update and map.
