Take the ink cartridge out and clean it with little alcohol and cotton, and make sure the cartridge is reseated properly.

Let me know.

I don't use the color printing yet the color cartridges are empty

It's all a scam. I have the same problem and I called Brother and they told me that the machine uses color ink to clean itself. It costs more to replace these color cartridges then to buy a new one, which is what I'm going to do. Buy a black and white from a different company. It's all a scam to get you to spend money on their color ink that you don't use.

Ink and Toner is how Fax and Printer companies make their money, the machine is just a way to sell supplies.

Yes, you will have to replace the Toner/Ink because they lubricate the print heads/drums.

No, it's the nature of the beast. All carts must have a certain level of ink.

I have changed all of my ink cartridges;but the black mode will not print, the color is working fine.

After replacement of each ink cartridge the machine will display "Did you change?" for each colour. If one or more do not come up with this message you may have a problem.

Check each cartridge for the black flag is moving up and down with the liquid in the ink cartridge. If it stuck firmly tap it on a table until it is freed.

Another problem if the black sensors in the ink supply unit are pushed back it may not read the cartridges. If visably they look pushed back (usually only two) I can let you know how to correct.

Finally the mainboard in the machine can fail causing some inks not to read but you can not resolve this yourself.

Fax mach 1800c brother

Although you may not use the other colours the cleaning assembly cleans all the cartridges hence the other ink gets used. To trick the machine into thinking there is ink in the cartridge, place some black tape over the top of each cartridge facing front of the machine. This fools the sensor into seeing no reflected light and reads that there is ink in the cartridges you do not use. Pleas enote that if you do this on a long term basis it is liley the head will dry out and may damage the head - use this advise to get urgent prints out.
