Are there any other PC's connecting to the router? If so do they have access ot the net.

Is the router a modem as well, or just a router connected to a seperate cable modem.

You need to setup the wireless, consult the manual on how to configure the wireless.

I cant connect to wifi with my ibm thinkpad r30 laptop. id like to connect if possible.

If you have not yet installed the wireless card driver then install it.
To connect to your wireless router then -
Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, configure the router'swireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPAor WPA2 encryption key and then configure wireless cards in the laptops and orcomputers with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.

Wont connect to my wireless routerits a thinkpad 2658 with a built in wireless connector I have linksys router. 2.4 ghz wireless My other computers in the house can connect just fine

does it see the router?

does it try to connect and ask for the passphrase? It maybe it doesn't like the encryption. you may have to set the router to something simpler like 64bit wep

check what channel the router is on and what channel the wireless card is set to.

I cant get a wireless connection on my IBM R40 using a Linksys G

I had the same problem with my R40 (2681) and a Linksys G router. The specs on IBM's/Lenovo's site indicate that the wireless card in the R40 only handles certain types of wireless encryption. The newer types (e.g. WPA) won't work on it and they are usually the standard on routers nowadays. My Linksys G router works fine with the R40 with WEP or with no encryption. Not ideal, but that's life with an old laptop.

Am I paying for this already? I need to know how to turn on my wireless on my IBM T42 so I can access the internet and connect to my home network...please advise...

Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP or Vista device drivers for your model computer, Use this link :-
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FbrowseByProductLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovo&brandind=10&validate=true
You can download the various drivers and then you click on and run the various driver files, they will then unzip and expand into a folder on C:\drivers Then install the various drivers from this folder.
Then you need to connect to a wireless router which is connected to your Internet Service Provider. The wireless card in the Thinkpad needs to be configured with the wireless router's settings (ie SSID, WAP or WEP encryption etc) for the wireless card to communicate with the wireless router.

We can't get our IBM T30 to connect with our Linksys router . The computer has a 3com wireless card

Has the Wireless card ever worked attached to another wireless router?

Is the card an internal miniPCI card, and is it an official IBM card for your region? Thinkpads check whether the card is for the correct region before configuring them in the Windows drivers.

Are you using the Thinkpad Assistant Wireless tool. I have found that it appears to be impossible to configure this software for 64 bit WEP or WPA PSK authentication.

My thinkpad will not connect to our wireless router. it shows our neighbors routers. I am on my husband's laptop which is right next to my laptop. His laptop is showing full signal. We have a Linksys...

Check you internet settings. Set up a home network from your computer and use all the recommended and default and automatic settings. Then the program will renew the IP address on YOUR pc to match the routers.

To access your router. Go to your pc's web address and type 192.168.1.1
If it by chance asks for username and password, type "admin" for both. Now you can set up your router options from your pc

Can't set up wireless on IBM Thinkpad

If I recall there are two types of wireless cards that are installed in the T40 series of laptops. Can't advise you which one is installed in your laptop. Download both of them and install one, it it doesn't work then install the other one.

Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP or Vista device drivers for your model laptop,
You need to use a computer that has Internet access to download and transfer the files to your computer.

http://www.ibm.com/products/finder/us/finders?pg=ddfinder&cm_re=other-_-suprcn-_-download

Once you get the wireless card operation, you need a wireless router that is connected to a cable or DSL modem which is connected to an Internet Service Provider.
You don't need a wireless router if you only want to connect to the Internet using wireless Hot Spots in public locations or Internet cafes.

T40 does not have wireless network adapter, how should i do to ues the wireless router?

Since your laptop don't have a wireless adapter , first thing that you can do in order for you to use the laptop to the internet with the wireless router is to connect the laptop to the router via CAT5 /Ethernet cable then that should now be able to access the internet , but if you want to make the laptop work wirelessly with out the cable connected to it, you can get a wireless adapter like this from Linksys WPC54G or a WUSB54GC if you have any of this wireless adapter you can now use the laptop wirelessly with the router.....

Hope that helps............

Wireless signal inconsitent; sometimes cuts out

If you are able to, take the the linksys card out of that IBM r50 and install it on another one of your laptops. If you get a great signal you know the card is good but if you move that card to another laptop and have the same problem you will have to replace the wireless card.If other laptops will not accept that card you can purchase a new Lynksys wireless usb adapter and see if that solves your problem. Those usb wireless adapters only cost about $35.Another way to seperate the problem would be to see if the IBM R50 will access any other wireless network with more signal strength.take your laptop to a public wireless connection(mcdonalds star bucks) any if you get a good signal than your problem is with your router.RATE ME IF THIS HELPS....Good LUCK!
