Question about Kenmore 72802 Gas Dryer

Kenmore 80 series, gas dryer, No heat

I have tried all of the settings on the timer. It turns on and runs, there just isn't any heat. I have disconnected the exhaust from the wall and checked for possible clogging. None.
Gas is working, just can't get any heat. Anything would help.

The dryer appears to operate (turns on, spins, etc) but I do not get any heat. I tried all the troubleshooting tips in the manual but none applied to my situation.

There are three questions about this dated in Arp and May... it is now the end of June and no one has answered the questions... what's the deal?

My dryer works but has no heat. It turns and buzzes and does all it is supposed to do without the heat. I run my dryer twice to get one load of clothes dry! God forbid it is a load of jeans!!!! My husband thinks it might be the igniter but I know nothing about dryers except how to use them. Any help or suggestions would be great!

The dryer works fine in all aspects, except that it does not heat up. Where is the ignitor located?

  • Anonymous Nov 11, 2008

    Dryer won't heat.

Wow... these questions were asked in Apr and May... it is not the end of June... still not answer... what's the deal?/

I just fixed mine.  When you take off the back panel, the thermal fuse is a small white plastic piece that has two electrodes plugged into it.  It is only held on by one screw.  It's toward the bottom in the middle.  I didn't know what it was, so I just went and purchased the piece.  It cost me $22.  Once I saw it, it was easier to spot on the dryer.  Quick and easy to install and now my dryer is working again!

Check your thermal fuse. We just had the same problem. it would start and run but wouldn't heat or shut off. The fuse is the problem with ours & it costs only $13.00.

I would check your thermal fuse. We just had the same issue & decided to bypass the fuse on the back & it started up just fine with heat & timing working perfectly. We checked continuity & it was intermittent. The part is about $13.00.

Kenmore 70 Series Dryer not heating and not cutting off

I had an identical problem to yours this weekend with my Kenmore dryer. There were 2 problems.

1. Timer was broken. Does not advance to "OFF" position on timed dry, however it still works for auto-dry.

2. Thermal fuse was blown. Upon replacing, dryer heated up normally.

I believe when the timer broke, the dryer had kept running and blew the thermal fuse. On Sears' website, thermal fuse is $5.30, timer is roughly $80.
