I have heard and did experience laptop spacer bar not registering when you press it.

I have a HP zv6000 with this problem, here is how I solved it, as it is a manufacturers design fault:

If you have the maintenance manual (get it of the web free), remove the key board. Place a small block of about 3/16" of folded paper between the underside of the spacer bar pad and the board itself. This it to help raise the spacer bar for the next step.

On the underside center of the spacer bar is a small black silicone rubber button, that may now have enough space between it and the underside of the spacer bar (after applying the sandwich of folded paper). The object of this is to enable you to place a 1/4" square of masking tape between the top of the silicone button and the underside of the spacer bar.

If this can be done, the tape will stay in place very well and in essence raise the spacer bar by the tape thickness, thus aiding in overcoming an unresponsive operation of the spacer bar. You may wish to place two thicknesses of tape in place for positive assurance. I only used one and it seems to work well, but I would recommend two thicknesses of tape, as the bar may still occasionally not register. But trust me it is much better now.

I'm sorry I did not take any pictures and I am not a member here, but I hope someone will find this very useful and post it for all to see.

Good luck to all.

Andy, Delta, Canada.

The spacebar on my laptop doesn't always leave spaces between words, what is wrong with it?

Inside the key, there is a metal bar the makes the spacebar key depress from anywhere you press it. Either this bar as unclipped from its hinges or they have broken.

Spacebar somewhat jammed

It seems that the button below spacebar is broken, there is a small plastic button which teared up sometime due to using the button over time time, try to replace the keybaord, you can check local shops for replacing single space key.

My Dell Latitude D630 spacebar came off. Nothing looks broken, but I can't get it back on.

If the hinge parts are not broken and are still in place then place the space bar over these parts, align it so it is in the correct position then press the space bar down until the hinges click into the space bar.

The far right and left ends of the spacebar do not work. In order to use the spacebar function, the direct middle of the button has to be pushed down.

You need to reposition (clip) the torssion bar under the spacebar key (a steel wire formed in a wide U shape), it is unhooked, call for a professionnal if you'r not sure how to do this as you may brake the plastic hinge if you don't know what you'r dooing...

I have a mac Laptop and the space button on the bottom of the keyboard is stuck down .. can this be fixed?

It is tricky to repair the space bar. It has a plunger in the middle and is held in place by tension clips. The tension clips are what make the spacebar pop back up. Usually one clip comes loose and the other side still bounces. If the spacebar is stuck down with no bounce, I would check to see if there is something wedged under the spacebar. Get a can of compress air and blow under it, hopefully this will release whatever is under there. Only take the spacebar off carefully without jerking it upwards. If it breaks the clip holder at each end, you will need a new KB.

Good Luck.

Space bar is sticky du to liquid accident ( soft

Get a Electrical/Electronic solvent spray from RS, give it a good spray (with Power Off!) and operate it lots of times. The spray will evaporate naturally and may remove the gunk! Ian.

The rubber plug below the spacebar button is faulty. The button needs to be removed gently and the rubber plug below it which touches the board below should be cleaned. If this does not solve the issue the rubber plug below the button needs to be replaced. Its a common problem.

thanks and please do not forget to rate the solution.keep updated.

Keyboard space bar

only two possibilities, first is the rocker springs at each end or the bar are causingit to not make contact. or the bubble switches under the keyboard. I had a similar problem on an inspiron 6400 and I had to VERY CAREFULLY remove the keyboard, then the button to reach the bubble switch which had lost the plastic bushing that covered the shorting contact, good luck given the insane price that dell wanted for a new keyboard fixing it myself was the option.

Spacebar does not work.

sounds like the rubber is stuck, take off your space bar (make sure you can put it back), make sure theres nothing on the little rubber peices, and put it back on
