2001 r1 not been run for 14 months started it up not responding like it should.emptied tank n put fresh petrol in seems to respond better higher up the revs but wont tick over getting a bit ov back fire.

If it has sat for a while, empty the carb. float chamber, flush out with clean fresh petrol. Make sure fresh petrol is in the tank and try again.

Spray some starting fluid in the airbox inlet while cranking the engine with the throttle open. If it starts for a few seconds, your problem is with the fuel. If it does not fire still, You need to check for spark at the spark plugs

If you have put diesel in, disconnect supply pipe to injector and allow to drain, flush through with fresh petrol. Reconnect pipe and crank engine over, will take some time but should start, if it doesn't you may have to replace the spark plug, as the diesel will have gummed it up. Will smoke a bit when it starts but will clear. If you have just filled up with the wrong grade of petrol, just fill up with correct grade and run it through, shouldn't be a problem

Did you the drain the old fuel from the carb? You need to clean out the old gas in the carb. by draining them.

i would be inclined to empty fuel tank and put fresh petrol in and then try it again ,try starting it with a ether spray in the air intake and see if it will fire up because once engine warms up a bit it will run on the old fuel so you drive to a garage and fill it up with some fresh fuel

First step is to get the fuel pressure tested. If it's not up to spec. the symptoms you describe will occur. If the pressure tests ok, it becomes either a fuel filter problem, or a sensor problem

Change your air filter, spark plug, fuel filter, and oil. Then make sure the gas is fresh. Gas starts going bad after a month. Spray carb cleaner in hole underneith the fuel filter. Oh yea dont put more than 20oz of oil in it.
