The MODE/REC button and to a lesser extent, all buttons along that row have become very sensitive. Barely touching causes file being played to go back to the start, or if in a directory, scans rapidly through the directory.

On your Sansa player, press and hold the Power/Menu button for 15 seconds to turn the device completely off. Slide the Hold switch so the orange portion shows. On your PC, double-click My Computer On your Sansa player, press and hold the REC button while connecting it to the PC. Release the REC button when a 16MB-FORMAT drive partition appears under My Computer. What is recovery Mode? Recovery mode is usually done as part of a troubleshooting step in updating the fimware on a Sansa player.
1. Press and hold the Power/Menu button for approximately 20 seconds.
2. Release the Power/Menu button.
3. Press the Power/Menu button again to turn on the player.
I do not think your model supports the recovery mode but you can try.
1. Press and hold the Power/Menu button for 15

4. On your Sansa player, press and hold the REC button while connecting it to the PC.
5. Release the REC button when a 16MB-FORMAT drive partition appears under My Computer.
This may not work on your player not sure of the Model cut off.

Run Windows Recovery Mode
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the REC button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the REC button in. Keep holding the REC button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version).
Download the Sansa Recovery Tool for your specific player
Then disconnect the Sansa from computer
Turn the Sansa player off
Hold in the REC button
Continue holding the REC button as you reconnect the Sansa to the computer
Continue holding the REC button
After 5-15 seconds, Recovery Mode should take hold.
You have to Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from Sandisk's website first. Then, disconnect the Sansa from the computer, press and hold in the REC button, and then reconnect the Sansa while holding the REC button.
I had the same problem. I got some electronic contact cleaner at Frys Electronics and sprayed a bit around the button, so that a little got inside. The button started working again instantly. If yu don't have contact cleaner you could first try a drop of denatured alcohol... I don't think it's as likely to work, but I also don't think it will hurt anything.
hi what you need to do is put the mp3 into recovery mode to do this follow these instructions 1 with mp3 player off push hold/lock button to lock position(this is what you press to stop you pressing buttons when its playing it locks the buttons out) switch this to lock 2 press and hold rec button on left hand side keep holding down 3 whilst holding rec switch mp3 player on keep holding rec button untill it comes on it should now say recovery mode.
Dont do this whilst plugged into computer and dont plug into computer after its in recovery mode untill told to
once its in recovery mode got sandisk website and download the latest firmware once you have downloaded it onto your computer then open the file on your computer it will then talk you through the rest of the procedure this will solve your problem.

hi what you need to do is goto sandisk website and download the latest firmware but before you do that try and put the mp3 into recovery mode if it goes into recovery mode then you can install the latest firmware this is how to put it in recovery mode 1. unit off slide lock switch to lock position 2. hold down rec button on left hand side 3. whilst holding rec button switch mp3 on whilst still holding rec button this should now be in recovery mode now download firmware and follow instructions this should solve your problem as long as it is a software problem let me know how you get on ok
Hi try this for me see if you can put your mp3 into recovery mode if it goes into recovery mode then i tell you what you need to do next ok follow these instructions 1. with mp3 off switch lock button to on position 2. press and hold rec button on left hand side 3 whilst holding down rec button switch mp3 on this should now be in recovery mode let me know if you get this far ok
plug in the mp3 player, once it turns on, hold the power button until it turns off then switch the hold switch to hold (showing orange) and then hold the REC button on the side until the player turns on with a black screen, saying its in recovery mode.
