Hi, I have a similar problem. My laptop was on, online working fine over wifi, I went away, came back and the connection was lost. The light wont illuminate and windows no longer has my wifi card in device manager. If booted into bios and it says under wifi card that a dell wifi card is present but I can not get any further. The wifi card light doesnt come on and I cant connect. If i press the wifi button the little icon appears to say its on (or off if already on is selected) but it doesnt actually do anything, it doesnt turn anything on. Ive also tried scanning for hardware in device manager and doing a system restore which had no effect (except creating a load of directories with (2) at the end).

    Any help would be appreciated

Further to my message the wifi card is not showing as present in bios now, it wasnt before then was then wasnt again. Does it sound like its just been fried. Ive taken the pannel off to look at it but it looks a bit hard to remove as theres some metal catch thing that looks like its soldered to the board that stops it moving so i couldnt pull it and re-seat it unless I have gotten it wrong of course.

Yey i figured out how to reseat it. really easy the clips just push back, pops out and then put it back in and it all works again. god knows what hapened. Now to delete all that stuff with (2) stuck in front of it. The stuff in the kaspersky roll back update directory wont get off my hard drive, it refuses to be deleted.

Hello Lisa

(01) Is the switch for your WiFi radio in the ON position?

(02) If it is, then it's possible your WiFi connection is (in your operating system) disabled or missing.

(03) If your operating system is Windows Vista, please, go HERE to learn how to access your network connections.

(04) If your operating system is Windows XP
(a) Click on START
(b) Click on NETWORK CONNECTIONS

(05) In either case, make sure your wireless connection is showing there.

(06) If your wireless connection is showing in your network connections, it is likely disabled. In that case, right click on it and choose ENABLE.

(07) Now, let's see if your WiFi LED lights back up for you.

(08) If it doesn't or if there was not a wireless connection in your network connections, please, post back here and let us know. We'll work w/ you to determine why it's missing.

Thank you,
BJ @:)

I neglected to ask in my 1st post.... are you still able to connect wirlelessly even though the WiFi LED is not lit?

If that is the case, then disregard my previous instructions. You simply have a failed LED. As long as your WiFi is working, the dead LED won't hurt anything. It isn't required for your WiFi radio to work. You can have it repaired if your computer is in warranty. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.

My Dell inspiron won't recognize wifi

Hi Mike,

There is a possibility that the Wi-Fi may not have been enabled so please let me know the system model so that I can let you know what needs to be done. You may also send me the system service tag so that if Wi-Fi is already enabled then I can check and provide the right Wi-Fi driver.

Thanks & Regards,
Kiran K

My WiFi light is not lit up on my Inspiron 1520. I cannot detect any wireless networks.

In Dell Inspiron 1520 Notebook, there is a switch on the left hand side of the laptop to enable/ disable Wifi. Make sure that it is on and with wireless light activated - Press and hold Fn and press F2 (Fn+F2). This will enable the wi-fi and you will be able to detect and connect to a wi-fi network

Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

GoodLuck!
Dont forget to appreciate the solution if I could have been of any help!
