Playing CD In CD/DVD Tray

When I put a Cd in the tray to rip, it begins to play automatic but itdoes not sound right it sounds scratchy as if it needs to be cleaned (Remember the head cleaner with the old Cassette Player) . after ripping the music which has slowed down considerably, I play back the music it sounds fine.
