it sounds like a malufunctioning screen.. to test try to see if the computer reacts the same with another screen attached to it*if its a laptop connect and external screen to the port and when u start up press f4*
using your remote ,off the close caption. the black rectangular box that you see for the message but since you have message in the box. that why you see a rectangular black screen.

i,ve seen bad conections on this ic too, it may not need to be replace its a ic that stands up 6 pins the numbeer on it starts with

I have the 51 inch of this model and I have found that usually it give you some indication before going completely out. Like color problems, sound, or just video disappearing. Most of the time it will be the convergence amps going bad, but you should have seen some color distortion. If not then it could be the vertical output. TDA8177 needs replacing and check caps around and diode, If not this then look for open fuse in HV line to crt's. Also power supply fuse like 1900, 2004, 1300, etc.
