I don't have a solution for you yet. If I may ask for additional information please? Does the "Check Engine" light ever come on? Either way why not take it to an auto parts store like AutoPalace / Autozone / or PepBoys etc. where they offer a free computer analysis of you automobile's on board computer & engine control unit. Perhaps there is a message there that could help you diagnost the problem. Good luck.
This is most likely due to a failing antitheft system. Next time this happens, look for a light in the dash somewhere that says "security" or might be a picture of a car with a lock thru it. If you see this light, go to this link for help. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/
Hi, i have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee, 4.0 litre, had the same problem, quits running out of the blue, driving down the road, or sitting idling. starts right back up or takes some cranking to get it running. found out that the crankshaft position sensor was going bad, cost 40$ for the part, but had to have mechinac replace it due to it's location, hard to get at. jeep runs great now.
Hi, by quit do you mean it shuts off and does not come back on until you turn the a/c switch off and then back on, or does it quit and kick back on by itself? (cycling) Do you by any chance have a way to check the pressures you are running? If so check them with the engine running about 1500 RPM. Also take them at idle and send them to me with the temperature of the outside air. That little bit of information can tell me alot.If it doesn't come back on until you manually turn it off and on, that is in your electrical system and I recommend taking it to a reputable service shop, even, dare I say it , the dealer (shiver) for troubleshooting. Take care
Does the fan work on A/C? If the fan isn't blowing, check the fuse. Heat when going down the road is simply an indication that the air from outside is coming through the system. If fuse is fine, blower motor is probably out.
I think there is a TSB on that problem. If the wind is coming from the passanger side then roll the window all the way down. Put a 2X4 in the door jam. So the 2X4 will be inbetween the the door and the jeep. Push on the top of the door like you are trying to close the door. What you are trying to do and slightly bend the top of the door toward the jeep. But just do it a little at a time.
If this is a gas engine, check the ignition coil or plug wires. A simple test...
Start the truck at night, then look under the hood while it's running. Don't use a flashlight or your headlights; it should be dark !
If you see sparks anywhere around the engine, you've found the problem. Now you can turn on a light to see where they're coming from - probably from a cracked ignition coil.
