Question about NEC VT676 Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

"clean filter" prompt

The clean filter prompt appears on the projector screen whenever I turn on the projector. It stays on for a few minutes, then goes off as the movie begins. I have vacuumed all the openings as instructed in the printed manual but the prompt remains active. What should I do? Is this unsafe?

It took me a few months to figure out how to reset the filter timer which is why the rating isn't a Fixya "4" but it works fine now. Thank you!

Hi there

Not at all. This promp automatically appears after a certain amount of hours.

To get this message away , all you have to do is go into the Menu and reset the Filter Timer.

test this steps and fix it. God bless you

  • Secure the lamp cover and the air filter cover of the projector body if the projector does not power on. Ensure that the power cable is firmly connected to the projector and an active power plug. If the projector was turned off and then on quickly--let it sit for 90 seconds before trying to turn it on.

  • 2
Replace the projection lamp if the projector will not power on or if the lamp indicator is flashing. Turn off the projector and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. Locate the lamp cover and remove or loosen the lamp cover with a screwdriver. Carefully remove the projection lamp from the projector housing using the handle, if available.

  • 3
Place the new projection lamp into the projector housing and secure it to the projector. Replace the lamp cover and reset the lamp timer. Power on the projector to ensure the new lamp is working correctly.

  • 4
Remove the projector from the enclosed area to allow air circulation if it constantly overheats. Place the projector into an open area and make sure there is no blockage for the ventilation holes. Unplug the projector for at least 45 minutes to allow it to soft reset.

  • 5
Clean the air filter to allow the projector better air circulation. Turn off the projector and unplug it from the outlet. Remove the air filter cover and use a vacuum to remove dust from the area. If the filter is unable to be cleaned correctly or is damaged, then replace it. Pull the air filter from the projector and place the new one in the now empty slot. Close and secure the air filter cover.

I have sanyo projector model PDG-DSU20E. Few white spots appeared on the right side of the screen. Gradually the spots has filled the right side about 1 feet is width till bottom of the screen. Now few...

1,white spots appeared on screen, means the DMD is broken, you need a new DMD.
2,the projector running off after only a few minutes, means the Inductor (Sensing element),near the Color Wheel. Use a cotton swab moistened with alcohol to wipe the Inductor.

Have a good day!

Whats it mean when the projector says to check the airflow every few hours on the screen. The projector is a Hitachi CPX440

one or more of the fans may not be working properly and the heat is triggering the temperature sensor. if the projector is too dusty, the heat stays in and may ruin components. if there are filters, clean them first.

Loss of picture

Yes, it is the projector.
Take the filter out and vaccum it, take the lamp out and use compressed air to clean the dust away.
Be carefull witt the air thoug! keep it a bit away from the projector when u cleand the dust away, to close and you can make big mamages inside it.
And, remeber to keep the filter as cleas as possible, i clean min every 2,5-3 monthes.

Good luck

Display problem

the adjustment box for colour, brightness and contrast stays fixed on the screen. i tried pressing the exit button.... after a few times it disappears only to reappear within a few minutes. also the auto adjustment option, for which we are supposed to manually press the i button, keeps auto adjusting the screen whenever it feels like it. the box appears right in middle of the screen and is a real nuisance as it blocks out the main portion.

Hi cdeaney

Does the Projector prompt you that the filters should be cleaned ?

If not , take out your lamp and check for any abnormality like discolouration or bubbles on the lamp shaft.

If you can't spot anything , it will most probably be your Ballast ( lamp's powersupply ) that will either need repair or replacement.

Tip : Rather replace the Ballast , I've had numerous of cases where the repaired Ballast gave the same problem a couple of months down the line when repaired.
