Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 14 loading but never loaded

By kyuu on Apr 14, 2008

" "
My copy of Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 14, is approximately a year and a half old, and I have kept up with updates and virus scans. Personally, I think it's worked great, but recently it stopped working altogether. When I turn on my computer and go to the desktop page I get a little error bubble saying something like "Your computer may be unprotected, we do not detect any antivirus program" The miniicon in the toolbar reads "Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 14 loading..." when you hover the mouse atop it for a while, and when you click on the main icon on the desktop to bring up the program it says "error, an existing version of this exists and Pc-Cillin cannot turn on" (or something to that effect at least).

If anyone has any knowledge of why this is or how to deal with the situation, I would be very thankful. I don't think it's a virus as everything else on my computer is working fine, but it's disconcerting.

-   i have te same problem. for a year now a previousinstance has been exiting. when i try to uninstall, it won't work. -   mildwild

Apr 21, 2009

-   Mine says unable to start the program. A previous instance of the program is exiting. Please wait a moment and then try again. I downloaded BitTorrent yesterday and am positive this is causing it but I don't want to remove BitTorrent because its really sweet. My Windows Security Center in the firewall section says that the firewall and pc-cillin are both working. I would like to fix this ASAP as I am sharing this computer with my family and they are very annoying and don't know what they are talking about when it comes to computers. -   Guest

-   My trend micro icon has disappeared from my tray. When i click the Trend micro icon in y programs I get the folloing message "no network device was found or there is a conflict with existing antivirus or security software. Only the virus scan, spyware scan and security functions will be available. To enable full product funtionality, uninstall conflicting software or enable a network connection and restart the program."

Next I get the message "Unable to read configuration. Restart your computer and try again. (hr=0x80070003, loc=7413, num=234)."

The the Trend Micro box comes up and I am told that the settings for internet security status and anti virus status are potentially unsafe and i can see that all settings are disabled.

How do I recover my Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2005 and get it working again? -   annechanson

Try booting your computer in (de-bug) mode. Press f8 when you turn it on . Also try using your System Restore (go back to a point where this did not happen). After you use the System Restore reboot in de-bug mode. Unless you have System Restore shut off which I never recommend.

i did it. after almost a year of that damned notice "unable to start the program. a previous instance is still exiting." i tried uninstalling and found that it would stop without notice. frustrating. i tried reinstalling the same version but it wouldn't work. un-nerving. my dell is still under waranty, but, of course it doesn't cover software. i called the software tech and it would cost 130 bucks. no friggn thanx.so i went back to the trend micro site and found this page: http://esupport.trendmicro.com/Pages/I-cannot-download-Trend-Micro-Internet-Security-for-Dell.aspx and used the alternate download for windows vista and xp 32 bit. with crossed fingers i watched it remove every bit of trend micro 14. BINGO. it then wanted money for the alternate security software. i uninstalled it and bob's yer uncle. scroo the trend micro stuff, happy as a bird on the wing to be rid of it. i am perfectly safe with superantispyware, avg,  windows defender, and windows firewall- all free!

The easy fix (which did not require a re-install) on my PC running Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 SP3 and PC-cillin version 14.60.1206 was the following. Close PC-cillin, open Task Manager, find the PC-cillin process, PcCtlCom.exe, and End it (highlight the process and click End Process). Then restart PC-cillin from Start Menu, within PC-cillin select Update and Registration on bottom right side, click Update, follow prompts - that's it! Hope it works for others.

I had a similar problem and this worked for me
with Trend Micros Internet Security.

You will have to uninstall the program first then reinstall it, otherwise it
will hang and cause problems with your computer.

In order to uninstall it do these steps.
Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > System Configuation.
Makes sure you select Selective Startup, and that Load Startup Items is unchecked.
Click OK, and you should be prompted to reboot.

After you reboot and the system is loaded your Virus Software icon will NOT
be in the taskbar trying to load.

Now go into control panel > Programs and Features.
Find the virus program, hightlight and select the uninstall option.
After its done doing that go back into the Control Panel >
Administrative Tools > System Configuration. Select Normal Startup
and hit the OK button.

Reboot again when you see the button prompt.
Now, after the system comes up, reinstall your virus software,

You should be good to go from there.
The process is for Vista, but if your running Windows XP it is very similar.
