All shredders need special shredder oil applied to the gears at least once a month. Oil is a very sticky silicone. Office supply stores sell it...

What kind of oil is used on the royal orca 9512x?

The shredder does not use oil. The noise probably relates to something jammed in the shredding mechanism or one or more damaged shredding elements.

My Achiever CCS-5000 still works fine, but emits a LOUD, LOUD, SHRILL noise when cutting. Can I fix it at home? It is seven years old, but only used in a home a couple times a week.

It could be a couple of things. I have the same unit and it is a couple of years older. I take some motor oil and dribble it across a few sheets of paper so that the cutters can be lubricated about every 1 hour of continuous use. This has decreased the noise levels immensely. The other possibility is the belt inside is slipping. The oil in the cutters can help this noise, but if the belt is worn badly, it will need replacement. To access the internals, you have to remove the unit from the stand, turn it upside down and located all of the case screws, (4). Mine has hex head screws. Turn the unit right side up and pull the cover off. Clean the unit out as much as you can, apply silicon grease to the gears (remove the old grease and clean as much as possible first). Using an oil can, squeeze some oil over the cutters. Check the belt, if you can move it without turning the pulleys or if it seems very loose, take it off, go to the nearest auto parts store and get them to size it and pick up a replacement if they have one. Otherwise, you'll have to order the replacement directly from the manufacturer.

Most likely gears inside have been damaged...open up the cutting head... see what is broken ,then contact ROYAL at 1-800-524-0799 for parts assistance.

I was shredding paper when it started making a loud grinding noise and wouldn't accept any more paper. I've tried running it back and forth, but it only goes, maybe half way, either way, and it still...

This is a very common problem. Go out to the hardware store and buy some silicone spray. With the shredder unplugged, spray a good amount of the silicone inside all of the teeth and try to get all sides.

Plug it back in and work it back and forth a few times. It should work better with less noise now.

Our shredder is making a loud, grinding noise.

simply try resetting the machine. unplugging it waiting for about 30 seconds then plugging it back in, also is the unit mounted properly on the unit? It might be one of the gears that is not broken...if you have a warranty now would be a good time to call them as they will fix or replace the part for the unit.
