Do not update Lenovo E430 bios to V2.54

Updating Lenovo Edge E430 could destroy your motherboard and cost you $450. Latest bios update is V2.54 and will update but leave you with a non bootable computer with no access to setup. Do not ever remove the power cord, battery, and bios backup coin cell battery at the same time. Result is Instant destruction of your system board. Update of bios up to V1.18 is okay but I would not activate the UEFI bios. Read all update directions carefully to understand procedure. Windows 7 and Windows 8 have different procedures.

Need update bios

If you want to update you bios first of all you need to check that which is your current version of bios. For that you may do these steps.
  1. Open Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information. Here you will find System Summary on the left and its contents on the right. Find the BIOS Version option and your BIOS flash version displayed.

  2. You can also scan the registry for this information. When Windows loads, it stores the main computer BIOS and video BIOS following information under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWAR\EDESCRIPTION\System registry subkey:

    SystemBiosDate
    SystemBiosVersion
    VideoBiosDate sanj2cool_0.jpg
    VideoBiosVersion

This information appears in the registry for only informational purposes and changing these values has no effect on the system.

After you got the same version of bios you can download the latest version from the specific vendor of you device and can update it by simply running as you install any software.

Vertical lines and discoloration on my sony vaio vgn a140

It is required to get the BIOS and the Video Driver Updated in the Computer to resolve the issue.

The BIOS Update and Video Driver Update are available at Sony Support Site for download.

You can view and download the BIOS Update from this link

Before installing the BIOS update, be sure the computer is running from AC power. If the installation of the BIOS is interrupted by power loss, the computer may not operate correctly or at all.

During the installation of this update:
  • Do not turn the computer off.
  • Do not allow the computer to enter Standby or Hibernation states.
  • Do not start other programs.
  • Do not connect any peripherals.
Download the AIBSYS-00772903-US.EXE file to a temporary or download directory.

Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the "AIBSYS-00772903-US.EXE" file to begin the installation.

At the "BIOS Update Utility for Microsoft® Windows® XP" box, click "Next".

At the "License Agreement" dialog, read the agreement, then, if you agree, click "I Agree" to continue with the installation.
NOTE:
Please wait while the utility extracts the necessary files for the update.

At the "VAIO BIOS Update Tool 1.0.01.10181" box, click "Update".

At the "WBFLASH" box, click "OK".
NOTE:
Please wait while the utility updates the BIOS.

At the "WBFLASH" BIOS Update successfully completed box , click "OK" to shutdown the computer.

After the computer shuts down, wait for a few seconds, and then power on the computer.
After the computer restarts, the installation of the BIOS Update is complete.

After installing the BIOS Update, it is required to Update the Video Driver to resolve the issue.

You can view and download the Video Driver Update from this link

Download the ATDVID-00610812-US.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).

Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the ATDVID-00610812-US.EXE file to begin the installation.

Then, please follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

After installing the Video Driver Update, please restart the Computer for the settings to take the effect.

Performing the above steps should fix the issue.

If the issue is not resolved, please check if the Vertical lines and discoloration are visible while accessing the BIOS Setup Utility.

To access the BIOS Window, please restart the Computer, press and hold the F2 Key to access the BIOS Setup Utility.

If the lines and discoloration are available on the BIOS Setup Utility window, the issue may be related to the LCD Screen of the Computer and you will need to get the Computer serviced to fix it.

In that case, you can contact Sony Service Center get the Computer serviced and resolve the issue.

No video displayed after updating bios

Yes, it is true and common. Anytime you update bios, also find the method for resetting/undoing the bios update.
go to the mobo mfg website and find how to reset the bios. This usually involves removing the battery, and jumpering the reset.
The reset may not reset/undo the update, but simply reset the bios to defaults.
Depending on the bios type the restore may vary.

My problem is that i have updated the driver of my graphic card Geforce4 MX440 SE AGP8x 64MB after driver updation my card lost it's 32MB memory and it shows 32MB memory only in bios in dxdiag everywhere...

once you update the drivers it changes right after you hit the enter key, all prevouise information is written over and it updates the bios. unless you have at one time made a backup copy of your bios than you would have that information.
