Picture reduces to about 2 in across middle of screen

When I turn the tv on I have a full picture no problem, after about 5 minutes it reduces to a 2" line across the middle of the screen. Can you tell me what this is?

Probably theelectrolytic caps around the vertical are failing or there are some bad solder joints in that are. See if tapping around the area restores the pic, if so resolder until it is better.

LG 32LH30 LCD TV Problem

IMO Seriously for $119 it's not worth it.
However, it does sound like a capacitor problem
If you are "Serious" about fixing I'd find a TV repair Forum.
Else I'd go here and get a new one.

I turn my tv on and can see the picture for a minute or so...then it goes to just a line across the screen. It's like the screen closes, leaving a line in the middle (left to right of screen)

The problem is with its vertical scan output section. Visit this site. Similar fault and its way fro rectification are described here.

Turned on my TV today to find a 5" horizontal stripe across the middle of my screen. I can view the picture through the stripe but the picture brightness on the top 1/3 and bottom 1/3 of the screen is much...

This sounds like an impact injury to the screen itself. It is likely that something may have hit the screen or if the set is old, the part inside may be starting to go.

Hope this helps

Tv not working

this symptom, sometimes called the tube light effect, it is characterised by a bright thin horizontal line across the middle of the screen. this symptom is caused by a breakdown in the vertical deflection circuit. hence maybe the trouble maybe in the vertical oscillator, amplifier or output circuits. but if all i have said is not clear to you, better bring it to a qualified tv technician. good luck!

Picture goes dead after 5-10 minutes

You may have a loose solder joint causing this problem. If you can take it apart, you mihgt try spraying circuit cooler in various parts of the circuit but NOT in the high voltage or horizontal circuits.YOU MAY CAUSE AN ARC OR A COMPONENT TO SHORT SINCE THE SET HAS TO BE IN OPERATION WHEN YOU SPRAY. If you hit the bad connection the picture will come back on. When the picture zaps to the middle of the screen, is there just a bright line? If so, then you have a loose connection or a temperature problem in the vertical circuit. Stargazer
