Question about Gateway M305CRV Notebook

Gateway Notebook performance

Hi, My mother-in-law recently bought a Gateway Notebook at Best Buy. We expected it to be slow -- she only needs it for email -- and it was. Now, a couple of months later, it's so slow it's virtually unusable. It seems to be loaded with a bunch of non-essential programs that keep popping up. What's the best way to clean this up and get it running at a reasonable speed? Will Best Buy re-image?

You should remove unneccesary programs cause they can cause your computer to slow down. Run a virus check because it might also be infected with these critters..

New RAM, still painfully slow.

That's extremely slow - although you don't say if it has always performed at this speed or it has recently slow down, I'd first download Malwarebytes and run a full scan - there might be a virus.

Run Task Manager, click Performance tab and check CPU, memory and disk usage to see which is the culprit.

Two utilities I would also recommend using: Chkdsk and Defragmenter.

My son bought a Gateway E-machines from Best Buy. It needs a new headphone jack (piece broke off in the jack). Best Buy wants to replace MotherBoard ($382) to fix Headphone jack. Is this really...

The reality is, Best Buy will only swap parts. there are other vendors on the internet that will replace discrete components. Google for "laptop power jack replacement" to find options. it takes decent skills to do this kind of repair, so research well.

Gateway lapton very slow and can't dowload anything?

Download " Getright" using search
(we have used it it 99% good)
and install it .....may be it will help you in saving the download files....
about slowing ........
beforee doing close all applications
press ctrl+alt+del once and check for the performance tab
dont touch the keyboard and mouse

now your CPU should be using 2% approx (will be OK but not more if more bad)
and the PF usage should be approx 300 to 450 for Best performance mabe little more +50 will be OK but not more .(the lesser the PF usage the better the performance )
(so for getting the best performance in the system unistall all un wanted software's )

let me know

CX 2620 is slow...I have installed MS Office 2007 and the performance is significantly lower on the Laptop,,,should I add Memory?

Hi there.
Its always a good idea to max out the ram (memory) if you are using power applications like MS Office 2007, the maximum memory your laptop will take is 2GB (2x1BG) and i recommend kingston ram as its one of the best out there.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

T40 slows down when switching from ac to the battery

You need to access the bios by pressing F1 when booting up. Go to the power management tab and set to max performance.
Likewise, in windows, control panel, power options, set to maximum performance.
That should do it, although don't expect to much from your battery in terms of life expectancy.
Good luck.
