Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-42WE655 42" Rear Projection HDTV

Recall? Let me get this straight. You contacted Sony and found that there is a recall on these TV's through Dec 2008? You actually had a repair done and Sony covered it? I bought mine through Sears too, Dec 2004

Have Sony Model KDF-42WE655. Picture just died and red lamp light started flashing. What replacement lamp is needed? Notice there is some discussion of a recall on this model. Why?

    Have not done anything yet

Have enjoyed the television for almost four years now. How easy to replace lamp?

We bought our television in Feb. 2005 and the picture is almost completely covered in blue spots. We also have trouble getting the television to turn on and off, it blinks the light and takes forever.

We purchased our 37 inch Sony Wega from Sears less than 3 years ago... Suddenly when you turned the TV off... you couldn't turn it back on.. we have the same stupid light flashing and can't turn the TV back on... I thought Sony was a good brand that you didn't have to worry about... I know now and I don't think I will ever buy Sony again..... This problem I now can see is common, which most likely means factory defect and I phoned Sony and they won't do anything..... Does anyone want to purchas a 150 lb paper weight?

The Optical Block is the problem Sony has has a major issues with them. It may still qualify for a recall where Sony will pick up the tab for repair as if it was a warranty repair. From the manufacture, you have a 1 year parts and labor warranty. If you had purchase a extended warranty, you will need to go back to the place of purchase to get it taken care of. It will only get worse.
To check with Sony if it qualifies as recall call 1800-222-SONY. It would be good also to give them both the model number and serial number.
I hope this helps,

Picture has too much green

Unfortunately you have problem with optics block.
It is a very common issue.
Sony had issued recall for these units. But some of the recalls already expired.
I would recommend you to contact Sony in recall warranty coverage information.
If it is out - repair is somewhere around $600-$800 and it is not worth of fixing.

Projection sony tv is yellow

Most likely it is the Optical Block. It has been a issue for most of the Sony LCD Rear Projections manufactured over the last 6 plus years. Your Model may still Qualify as a factory recall. What you need to do is to get in touch with Sony's Customer Service at 1800-222-SONY and see if it does Qualify.
If not, it is a expensive repair costing 1200.00 to a 1500.00.
I hope it still does Qualify for a recall,

Blue tint on bottom of screen

I have the same KDF60XS955 sony and have the same problem. I called sony customer support and was told there was a recall on the optical block for this tv. But the recall ended in Dec. of 2008. I was upset that they did not call or send out a notice to me. They should of had my information because I had a different issue that they sent someone out to fix a few years ago. They said it was an expensive fix, like over 1000 dollars. Instead of fixing it they offered me a deal on a smaller tv, a 52 inch sony. I could buy that one at a discount which is about 1100 dollars. I told them that I thought that was the worst deal I have ever heard of. Why would I spend about 4000 dollars for a tv 4 years ago only to be told that I could buy a smaller one today for 1100 dollars more. I said if I bought that 52 inch tv today, what would happen 4 years from today, am I going to be offered an even smaller one for more money again? I thought I was buying a top of the line tv back then, I only wished it would have lasted longer than this. Not happy!

good luck though cause if its the blue blob they wont and as I have a kdf42we655 and just took it apart and cleaned it all out all I see wrong is something with the yellow prism lens so all I would need to fix my tv is the little snap on piece that has the blue, red and yellow prism on it.........not the whole optical engine that costs as much as a new tv............

Sony kdf50e2000

id ask for the money back on the tv since its covered by the ext warranty.if they only want to fix it one time knowing it will do the same thing again they should take the tv back and refund your money instead of trying to make you buy another tv from them.there is also the better buisness bureau you can report them to to get a refund if nothing else helps.i would not settle for either of the deals they are tring to offer, if they had a recall on the set they should have notified you of that so you could return the tv then and not have this problem now. tell them you simply want to return the tv for a refund since it has the recall and buy another tv other than sony
