Ghosts our HCM5525W started producing blue and yellow ghosts but the main picture appears to be alright at least color wise. What could be wrong? Also is it costly to repair?

Have you tried adjusting the blue convergence in the TVs menu? It's on page 3.4 of the manual here: http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/200306/20030618174051718_AA68-01509D.pdf

If you did try to adjust and it's doesn't move or you cannot get it to converge then it's probably the convergence board that is malfunctioning. The updated part number for the board is: AA95-01799G. Google it, you can buy it from many different locations for under $100.

The proper part # for the convergence board is: AA95-01799G

The part Jaime867 pointed to is the power board.

It looks like you have a convergence problem with your TV if you are not able to align the colors correctly.
You will need to replace the convergence assembly found in this link.

Thanks for the correction machine. Is the board number you mention the sub-conversion board or the one that also controls the magic focus?

The reason I ask is because i do not see the SKT ICs on it.

  • Jaime Hernandez Apr 14, 2008

I meant the the sub-convergence board (Flash focus).

Your TV needs to have the convergence adjusted. There will be an option for this in your setup menu and will take about 30minutes to an hour to complete (and a few stiff drinks won't hurt either)

Inside the set are 3 tubes, Red, Green and Blue. They all have to point at the exact same spot or you end yup with the ghosts as you have.

Hope it helps

How old is ur tv...? Cos the wear & tear is the cause for this ghost appearance. The repair for this is only temporarily. It can not be eliminated completely.

Generally the blue ad yellow colour can be removed by a tool which is available with a tv technician. It is not very expensive to do this. Hoping to hear from you.

Thankyou

My tv screen when on turns yellow then after a while it will switch back to normal colors what can be wrong with it....

Televisions covered: all Projection with yellow picture, but not Projection TVs with a yellowish tint surrounding objects in a nearly normal picture.

Yellow = red + green
normal picture = red + blue + green (RGB). See illustration.

Fig. 1 Additive color mixing in an RGB monitor, or RGB Projection TV.

The circuitry powering your blue output, or the blue light engine itself is starting to fail.

Operating Theory:

The lamp module shines a bright light into the optical unit; there are a series of lens and baffles, and at the top of the light engine, a lens puts the picture into a mirror which is reflected onto the screen; All video and color is processed thru the light engine. Blue most commonly fails first, leaving a yellow picture.

Yellow, blue and green ghosting of picture. Convergence mode will not allow realignment of the red and blue lines

Hi,it sounds like a light engine problem.Lcd Technology uses 3 chips blue, green and red that create the image ,when they start to fail color discoloration will occur. If it's an Dlp pay attention to sounds of buzzing, whirling and high pitch sounds because it could be your colro wheel.

Blue gun out of focus

There is a manual focus adjustment above and between the red and green gun, located in the front of the TV behind the panel; It is a small black box about 3X3" . This has all three adjustments .

DLP Colors Are Off - Picture Is Mostly Blue and Yellow

Sounds like you've lost your red video signal (chroma) somewhere along the line. This tv has a 3 board video path. Analog main pcb --->Digital main pcb --->DMD pcb. The analog has all your inputs on it, except DVI and RGB which go straight into the digital board. The digital scales (upconverts) the signal to HD (1080 or native) and sends it to the DMD or light engine. See which inputs are distorted. If only DVI is clean then you problem is the analog board. If you menu and everything is distorted then suspect the DMD board. If you run component or DVI through the resolutions (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i) you can get an idea between the digital board and dmd. The menu is generated on the digital board. Somewhere red is getting lost.

Red and yellow ghosting.

this would be because your color guns are off. The green and blue are still alright which makes the green but the red is off so it makes the red shadow. A quick and cheap fix, just call a repair guy. wouldnt reccomend a diy since its something easy to mess up.
