There is no solution for it because of its design. i have same GE and same problem. It is happening because top rack is right front of the detergent cup and it is not opening 180 degree while it is washing. it opens only 15 or 20 degree and water just doesnt get in there as much as suppose to be because only water can get in there from the bottom sprayer arm because detergent cup lid is not allowing water to get in the cup from middle and top sprayer like any other dishwasher! i called them so many times and they are just jerks! they blame anyting about my house but their dishwasher. their tec. showed up 4 times and they just keep blaming hot water temrature etc. water temprature doesnt matter if water cant get in the detergent cup, right? but they dont want to admit that because they are like programed robots to give you same answers and just blame you but GE dishwasher. please fill out complain form with Consumer Complaint Department. you should be able to find their address and web site on the internet. Please do so, maybe we can get refund or replacement or something. Never ever buy GE again. Just get a Bosch.

SOURCE: Detergent left in dispenser cup

You either do not have enough water getting itno the machine or it is not hot enough. 5 years old so I would suspect a plugged screen on the fill valve.

10-yr old GE Profile dishwasher...lately there's been detergent left in the cup, and lots of items come out dirty...plastic, ceramic, etc. I've cleaned/rinsed the sprayer and filter, but it doesn't he

Check if the water is getting heated in the dishwasher. Most likely water temperature if not adeqaute will not fully use the detergent and cause dirty dishes. This could be caused by heater which is failing.

Why does a lot of detergent remain in the soap dispenser after a washing cycle is complete

Was the dispenser cup wet when you added detergent?
Make sure the dispenser cup is dry before adding powdered detergent. If dispenser cup is wet, the detergent can clump.
Is the cycle incomplete?
If the previous cycle did not complete, the detergent can become caked in the dispenser cup if it is left sitting in the dishwasher.
Is the detergent old?
Older detergent exposed to air will clump and not dissolve well, which will cause the dispenser door to stick to the detergent. Replace detergent if necessary and store the detergent in a tightly closed container in a cool dry place.
Is the water temperature too low?
For best washing and drying results, water should be 120oF (49o C) as it enters the dishwasher.
Were items blocking the dispenser that kept it from opening?
Items blocking the detergent dispenser will keep it from opening. Make sure water action can reach the dispenser.
Detergent guidelines
  • Use automatic dishwashing detergent only.
  • Other detergents can produce excessive suds that can overflow out of the dishwasher and reduce washing performance.
  • Store tightly closed detergent in a cool, dry place.
  • Fresh automatic dishwasher detergent results in better cleaning.
  • Add detergents just before starting the cycle.
  • The amount of detergent to use depends on the hardness of your water and the type of detergent.
  • If you use too little, dishes won't be clean.
  • If you use too much in soft water, glassware will etch.
  • Suggested fill amounts are for standard powdered detergent. Amounts may vary if you use liquid or concentrated powdered detergent. Follow instructions on the package when using these detergents.
  • Water hardness can change over a period of time. Find out your water's hardness by asking your local water department, water softener company, or county extension agent.

Pour half a cup of white vinegar straight into the bottom of the machine and run it through a fast wash. You may need to do this a couple of times?
