The keyboard is broken and needs to be replaced, try booting into dos mode and see if the problem persists

you can get a dosboot disk / cd from www.bootdisk.com

if the problem doesnt happen in dos then there is most likely a virus in you laptop. if the problem persists in the dos then the keyboard needs to be replaced.

This afternoon my laptop was working fine, then the keyboard started messing up, when I pressed any letter it came up with 4 other letters. Then i pressed '9' once and it continuously typed 9 until I

First thing I would ask is this. Was anything spilled on the key board? I had a situation similar to this and I found that my son spilled a Sprite and wiped it up but didn't tell me about it. One way to check this is to hook an aftermarket keyboard that runs off your USB2 port and see if the keys work correctly that way. If they do, I would suspect that something was spilled into your laptop keyboard.

Keyboard only type numbers.

Hi there,
Please try looking for the numlock key on your keyboard and usually you would have to press and hold the Function or Fn key before pressing numlock so you can toggle it on and off.
Once you've turned off the numlock I'm sure that it will be back to normal.
Thanks!

When i type the letters on my keyboard, the numbers show up instead. i don't know how to revert the system or functions back to normal. i must've accidentally pressed a button to change the characters when...

Sounds like the keyboard is in NUM LOCK mode

They keys map like this:

7 8 9 = 7 8 9
u i o = 4 5 6
j k l = 1 2 3
0 . = m .

Look for the NUM LOCK key on your keyboard.

Typically, you press the FN key (lower left corner) and the NUM LOCK key (typically towards the upper right) together to put the keyboard back into regular mode.

When I type 0 9 numbers are coming up instead of letters problem:

If you had specified exactly what computer you have I could have give you exact instructions ;) Here are general instructions that should help with this problem.

Look around your keyboard, see if you can find a key marked "Num LK". If the Num LK text is the same colour as your other keys, just press it once. Try typing, see if that helped.

If the Num LK text is blue, Look around your keyboard, see if you can find a key marked "Fn". Hold the Fn key pressed while pressing the Num LK key once. Try typing, see if that helped.

Good luck ;)

I type j and it comes out 1. can't fix.

Try this.

Press the Start key + R.

type osk in that box and hit enter

On this keyboard, try toggling numlock scrolllock and capslock a few times. does it help?

I think your numlock might be stuck on and your keyboard "num lock" key isnt working

Your keyboard logic chip is in need of therapy.

Replacement of keyboard warranted.

Now, I thought that it might be a redesignation of your language code, but that proved not to be the case.

WINDOWS XP TABLET EDITION WILL NOT TURN OFF & Keyboard Glitch

Hi Denniskeys,

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that the numberpad function in active on your keyboard while your trying to type. Perhaps you could try disactivating the number pad by using (FN+F11) keys. If its tuned on, you will see a small green light under the F11 key. Once its turned off, that light will also turn off.

Try typing ofter turning it off and see what happens.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like your num lock has been toggled on by mistake. Look for a key that says NmLK. It will be in the same color blue. That key may also be the scroll lock key(ScrLk) that should solve your problem.

Thanks
