I went to Ebay to buy a MOTOROLA DCT6208/2005 box that matched the rental box I got from Comcast. I was ready to activate the box, had it wired into the system, and got a menu page that said the box was locked and needed a four digit code number to unlock. I called Comcast and requested they give me the code, which they refused. They said since the box was not from them, they could not help me activate it. They said I could either rent a box for $5./mo. each, or buy a TIVO and they would allow that to be acitvated. I don't want a TIVO with their monthly subscriber fee. I just want to recover the lost channels that Comcast is re-locating onto the digital realm that I'm paying for. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to unlock this box?? Thanks in advance....
I don't think you can use that box with Comcast, even if you were to get that lock pin removed, it still would not work with Comcast. The lock pin is easy to remove if that's a Comcast box, but the reps just hit a button on your account and it clears it. If the box is not able to be added to your account then they won't be able to remove the pin. Why don't you just get the DTA's for your TVs? You get 2 for free and you can get channels 2-99. What channels are you missing?

I'm sure Comcast will be more then happy to direct you on phone step by step on how to do this... I'm sure you pay them every month.. don't you. Best way I'd hook up is through the 5 RCA jacks monster cable. 3 for picture... green red and blue. then the 2 red and white for sound. match colors cable box TV. if asking to connect direct cable to box.. your tv will pick up either some or nothing. you still need the Comcast cable box.
No HD channels on a DCT700, you have to have a HD capable box from comcast. Usually $8.95 a month for box rental. Don't know a lot about DVD players. If you get a comcast HD box, and have an HD TV, you should use an HDMI cable for best picture. Second choice is component cables. Those are the red, white and yellow or red, white yellow, blue and green cables.
You do not want to buy HD ready (ready means it will accept HD sources), Ful HD TV will have ATSC digital tuner for off the air signal, you will want it to have QAM tuner also so if you decide to get cable, you can get unencryped HD programs without using the cable box (that is what I am using with my Entended BASIC Comcast cable without using/renting their box, Comcast gives three free boxes, then you have to rent the rest if you have more than 3 TVs at about $7 a month).
The Remote w/ On Demand buttons, it's the same as the DVD player code 1932. Hit the AUX button, press and hold SETUP until AUX blinks and enter 1932. Press the power button and it should turn off the reciever.
*UNLOCKING VOLUME CONTROL* You must until your AUX volume control in order to use your Comcast remote. To do so, you must select AUX, press and hold SETUP until AUX blinks. Enter 9-9-3 and press Vol - (down). This should unlock your volume control when you select AUX. I'm not sure how to set AUX as your default setting for volume, unless you were to program your AUX device as your TV and vice versa I'd suspect.
Hope this helps!
I called Comcast they said I could buy a box from ebay and it would be no problem. When I got it had no pic or sound, I called and they said if it was unplugged for 2 months or more it wouldn't have proper upgrades and is junk and said not to buy from ebay. Then why did they tell me I could on the first phone call? Thanks Comcast.....
