Question about Oreck XL2600 Vacuum

1 Answer

Oreck Upright Hi Redev, I'm not sure what model I have (about 6 years old...upright, looks like the one in the picture). I changed the belt (which was torn) and then the next time I used it, it cut off on me. Now if won't turn on at all. (I turn the switch on and off and nothing happens as if it is not plugged in but it is!). I noticed at the top where the power cord enters the handle, it is all frayed. Could the electrical wires have detached? Anything you think I should check before taking it to a service store? Thank you!

The cord could be bad and will ahve to be replaced. It would have to have a problem inside the handle or down by the motor.

MY ORECK PUSHES SO HARD.

It be one of two problems or both.
1. You may need to change your belt. a belt change on an Oreck should be done about every 6 to 8 months.
2. A new roller brush. a roller brush acts like tires on your car. when the brushes wear out they have no traction and cant grab your carpet to pull the vacuum.

A combo of replacing both would more than likely be very helpful.

Hi, I have a 1 year old XL Pro Plus Upright. Motor works fine, brushes are turning but it will not create any vacuum. we made sure thenew bag is connected properly and still no suction. Any advise? Thanks,...

The belt that turns the brush bar is probably stretched and worn. Once this happens, you will lose suction. When they get worn they stretch, thus causing it to spin on the bar itself.Just simply replace the belt with a new one that fits your machine.

Good Luck!

Oreck does not have good suction and leaves lint on rugs, and floor---any solutions?

If it has been longer than 6 months I woulf replace the belt. Wile doing that look to the rear of the vacuum and the side chute and make sure you do not have anything plugging those entrances.

Changing the belt

Always make sure your machine is unplugged from the outlet before replacing the belt.
Newer Oreck uprights have an access plate on the right hand side of the base (as you're looking at it from the front). Remove the one screw from the access plate and slide it forward. Snake the new belt around the brush roll pulley and then strrrrrrretch it back to the motor shaft. Replace the access plate.
If your model does not have an access plate; turn the machine upside down, Remove all screws. Lift the bottom plate off. Observe the position of the brush roll ends, One side of each end cap will have several notches cut into it,this is the 'new' side, the other side is smooth, this is the 'old' side. You can reposition the brush roll the the 'old' side if your bristles appear worn down.
With the brush roll still removed; place one end of the belt over the motor shaft first, place the other side of the belt around the brush roll pulley and stretch the brush roll forward until it is back in place.
Spin the brush roll by hand before replacing the cover to ensure the belt is not pinched.
Replace to cover.

Roller on upright vacuum is not spinning so vacuum is not picking up dirt

Hello,

Any time that a vacuum's roller brush stops spinning, this means that your belt has either stretched so much that it's fallen off of the motor, or that your belt has broken.

Here's a very helpful video on how you can replace the belt on your Oreck. This will give you step by step instructions on the belt change.

If you need to purchase a new belt, here's a direct link to a 3 pk. of belts that are used on your Oreck XL upright on our website:

Simply won't turn on!

I believe all Oreck vacuums have a lifetime warranty. You should pursue that.

Oreck XL intellashield smells hot and smoky when operating. New bag and belt and no clogs. About a year old.

If it smells like burning rubber with white smoke its the belt make sure the brush spins freely. If its a electrical burning it will smell real bad you WILL be able to tell which then its a motor issue you can remove the bottom plate 5 phillips head screws opposite the motor youll see 1 screw remove it pry the duct out and look to see if there's anything stuck in the fan if not its the motor its self

My oreck XL7 smells when it's on. Smells as if it's the motor. Had the Oreck for 4 years but hardly used it?

The smell is probably from the belt. When they are worn and stretched they can start to smell. You can get replacement belts for your model here:

While vacuuming it's unusually hard to push.

Hi,
I see your post is from May. I just joined Fixya this month so, id you're still looking for a solution, I would saythe belt broken or is so stretched the roller isn't spinning. Here is an link to an online guide with illustrations for changing belt. Also check the roller brushes for wear and change if necessary. Hope this helps.

Oreck XL2200

Some models have a door on the right side that you can remove, just has one screw, then you can get to the belt. Other models that don't have the belt door, take off the bottom plate, there are 5 screws to take out, then you can get to the belt as well as the brush roll and motor.
