I'm having the same problem. In my case the problem seems to be intermittent, though. Sometimes the network name cannot be found and then later it suddenly appears.

I'm having a similar roblem. reset will work only for a eriod of time. (day or two at the most) Problem getting worse over last couple months. Almost seems like a power-supply issue, but the wired computer is - usually - fine, though it has had the odd connection issue (slow, web page timeouts, etc). Usually I just unlug the unit and modem from the wall for ten seconds then its fine again.

I noticed in the Log window of the SMC advanced set up that there are a lot of "Dail on Demand" events. I have no idea what this is, but it seems strange.

I also have a SMC Barricade 7004VWBR. Connected to a Motorola cable modem provided by Comcast. Previously had a RCA cable modem, but due to signal drop, Comcast replaced it with the Motorola version. Have a couple laptops that have been using the wireless networking on the SMC for 4 years or so with no problems. Suddenly, we can't keep 2 wireless connections for more than 15 or 20 minutes. Did a factory reset, and the problem still persists - there is no problem when we use the wired connections. I need troubleshooting suggestions to find the root cause - the SMC logs don't appear to show logoffs or drops - all the PC's show up as connected as long as the IP lease endures.

Try resetting the router to refresh it's hardware, there should be a small reset button on the back somewhere , but be aware you may lose all configuration settings if you do do this , so if you're unsure what your are doing don't hesitate to ask.

I just used recovery disk to restore back to factory setting for acer aspire 7741Z. Now it won't recognize my wireless router

To connectyour computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh networklist, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connectto your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Keybefore allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This NetworkKey is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is used toconfigure the Wireless Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way tosetup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrasethat was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_addressFor information on securing your wireless network, configuring the wireless router and configuring the wireless card in thelaptop/computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

My Dell desktop using Windows XP can't connect to my Belkin 5720 router but my laptop still works?

This sounds like a hardware failure, but just in case go to your computer Control Panel-Network Connections(Network and Sharing Center for Vista and above), and check your Network adapter settings. If your Network card is not showing, you may have a driver issue, or a bad NIC (Network Interface Card). It shouldn't matter that your router says" wireless hardware not detected", because you are hardwired from the computer to the router. I would check to see if you may have turned off, or blocked Ethernet connections on your router, I would then change my Cat5 (Ethernet) cable, and finally open the desktop and change out the NIC (Network Interface Card).

Go to my computer control panel network connections and see if the setup for networking is correct DHCP should work most of the time. Check the device manager and see if your nic is properly recognized. If not you might need to install drivers for the card.

mycomputer - control panel

mycomputer - view system information - hardware - device manager

Also, sign onto your router and see if the router recognizes the computer.

It should tell you how to do this in the routers manual.

Does not have wireless network adapter

If wireless network adapter does not show on your computer, you can try reinstalling the drivers for the network card. If after reinstalling the network card, it is still not recognized on the device manager, then i think you need to contact your computer manufacturer for possible hardware issue.

I have the same card with Tecra A4. It was working fine with a D-Link 615 wireless router then for no reason it stop working I was able to detect my wirless network but no communication session started between my card and the router. I restrat the router and change the OS fro Linux to XP but still I have the same problem.

At the end I notice that in simple words my card cannot talk at all with the router. So I went to the router wirless settings and change the protocol from:
mixed 802.11 N, mixed 802.11 G, mixed 802.11 B
to only
802.11 G and 802.11B

Then it works fine onb both Linux and XP

About my wireless card...

reset the network settings both on the computer and your router and start again. go to the website for your router and enter the ip or mac address for your wirless card and enable it on your network. to get your computer to recognise the network, turn off wireless, plug it in the local area connection first then for a few minnutes then enable the wireless and unplug the wire and it should recognise.
