Question about Toshiba 36A50 36" TV

1 Answer

Red picture hi, the problem started with the picture blacking out for a few seconds at a time once in while say every half hour give or take...that went on for a few days... then that problem stopped but the picture then went red...like the transmission was coming from mars! this happens if the source is satalite tv or dvd. when there is no signal the tube is all red with horizontal lines running across it about 4" apart from the top to bottom. this has been a great set (5 yrs old). would like to save it. Please help! thanks, ben

Assuming this is a TV with a picture tube and not plasma or LCD; I'm afraid that your picture tube is dying on you one electron gun at a time. From what you said your green electron gun is almost totally dead and the two remaining blue & green guns aren't far behind. Eventually you'll have no picture at all and I would estimate that to be about 6 more months but whatever the time eventually it will go totally black. These blackout periods will get longer and longer. The only way to fix your problem is a new picture tube but my will probably find it less expensive to just get a brand new TV set.

Set will often have problems starting back up

you have a high voltage arching problem. the crt has about 33000. (thirty three thousand) volts on it. the anode lead is arching to the chassis(ground) around the crt(picture tube). the anode lead is the big red wire on the very top of back of crt. with the back off, you will see the big red wire and it will have a suction cup about 4 inches round connecting to picture tube. unplug. silicone around suction cup. let dry for 24 hours. enjoy. you might get a little shocked even when unplugged, but wont hurt you.

The picture is taking longer and longer to come on. It's not a consistent length, last night had it on several hours, it was off for an hour and a half, turned it back on and it took over 90 seconds for...

if you can get another one for a reasonable i would certainly consider that. the cost to get these lcd's fixed sometimes is not worth it. you seem to have more than one problem with the set.

I have an older admiral tv. The picture goes in and out.

check the terminals of the yoke..it might have a loose connection..try to resolder...otherwise you need to check both horizontal and vertical output..

White Line Across Television

If it is just a collapsed picture and view as a white horizontal line across your screen. Loose vertical IC connection or is start ailing. Best is to reflux its pin with a new lead or resolder it.

But I don't recommend you do it yourself if you don't have experience doing it.

Nasty voltages may caught you.

Picture fails

hi,

sounds like a high voltage issue, it will have to go in, i dont recommend self servicing that. may sound strange but Ive seen several tvs go by way of spouse having a plant above or near the tv, that person watering it and a few hours later mad spouse sitting in front of a busted tv that sounded just like that. also I had a cat that sprayed one and it did that. just a couple ideas for ya.

Sound and no picture

Hi, if your getting half a picture AND the other half is black the vertical circuit is failing, either solder is broken or vertical IC needs to be replaced, not a pricey fix, BMW Rider

Picture flips from color to black and white continuously

I believe your set has a loose conection that needs to be resoldered ,every time you hit it reacts and that is good, you need to use a wooden or rubber handle to tap in the main board, around the tuner and in different areas until it reacts,be attentive when it does so you can flip the board and resoldered the area that made it react, once the problem is corrected you need to resoldered any other overheated areas and there should be a few in your set, check the grounds in the tuner(where the coax goes in the inside,is a silver box),the horizontal driver transformer and output transformer.Be careful while you do this and stay away from the thick red wire going to the back of the picture tube specially when the set is on. Let Us know how it goes or if you need more information.

LMAO. Man I wish things were that easy! An easy Button ?? HHMMM lol no Im afraid you probably have cold solder connections on the filiment connections on the CRT (picture tube) board or in the filiment circuit. It could be a video problem as well but the only way to tell would be with a multi meter . Now if your not a tech, it wouldnt be wish to open this set as theres very high voltage inside the set. seek a pro to assit in this repair. Good Luck
