I have bought two toaster egg makers and on both the egg maker has stopped working. The first within about 18months and the 2nd in less than 6 months. I bought both at Target but did not keep the box or receipt? Why does the egg cooker burn out so fast?
I have the same problem. First the egg poacher did not work on the second time using it and now (on about the tenthe time using the taoster it won't come on either. Its like the mother board on the front panel is burning out. Have searched the entire back to basics websit for warranty or 1-800 info and now luck . Any one have that number?

I have had mine about 7 months egg does not cook any more!!
the toaster part works, however the poaching part does not.
it worked about three times when I pressed the egg poach button separate from the toasting button. A day later when I tried to poach and toast button the combo did not work. After that I tried the poach button separate from the combination button it also would not work anylonger. Is there a fuse inside that needs to be replaced. I have had this egg&muffin toaster for only a month.
I sell back to basics products in my Store, Stuart' Foodtown, we are Associated Food Store retailer. This product had been in the store for two years. The last one of a batch I bought. It looked like a good concept so I decided to take it home and try the appliance..Needless I am disappointed in the appliance, but also in your service number
1-800-688-1989 where the lady insisted I should have a receipt, for the rest there was nothing she could do, while all I wanted to know if there was a fuse in the appliance. I could not even get to that request, because she was so obnoxious. Anyhow I have second thought about your basic appliance and customer service. SOOO why does the darn thing not work?

My egg cooker stopped working, so I took the unit apart. To answer your question, I did not see a fuse inside. One way to tell if it is a power problem to the mother board is to observe whether the LEDs light up or not after pressing the switches. If the LEDs don't light, there could be something wrong with either a power component or a power connection.
In my case, the toaster worked fine. Usually these problems are caused by loose connections. Sometimes it is not obvious where the loose connection is. All I did was loosen and re-connect the wires to the egg cooker and also to the board they came from. I also shined up the toast slide button copper connections with a nail file. This was just a precaution, since the toast slide button had to be working (i.e. it still toasted, just didn't cook an egg).
So far, it seems to be working, but time will tell. If the problem was due to something other than a loose connection, it will happen again.
