PURPLE LINES SHOWING ON SCREEN WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TAKE PHOTOS

Your camera likely needs a new CCD imaging sensor. It is a cute little thing and is very expensive to replace. I've seen deals to repair any digital camera on eBay and I would check for a local repair person in your area. You can use the search on this site to see who might be close by. I have an A310 doing the same thing.

Couldn't see them, but if they were black, or distorted, or strange colors, read on. If your pictures looked strange, it's probably due to a defective CCD imager. If so, Sony should fix this for you for free under their recall advisory, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Distorted Viewfinder Only In PIcture Mode

Yes, You are correct, it does not seem to be problem with the CCD. Insted it seems to be with shutter control or apparture control mechanism of the camera. Normaly there is one single cable carring signal to the shutter blade mechanism and the diaphram control. If this cable is damaged it shows the same symptoms as you have described in your mail. Get in touch with an expert camera repairer.
