I've purchased a new PC and have moved all of my data to my new system. My old system, a Medion 7309C has XP on it and I want to reload XP so the hard drive is clean of added programs and my data files. I didn't get a CD copy of XP. Is there a way to reload/restore the system so it's functional w/out worrying about someone hacking it and finding my data files?

Even if you formatted the drive and re-installed XP your data would be recoverable quite easily.

However use the free trial of this app and use the Gutmann method of deletion to stop recovery of sensitive data.

How do you transfer settings and files to a new PC?

Hi Anita,

First and foremost, you should perform a COMPLETE back up of your computer's drive(s) to either CDs, DVDs, Thumb drive(s) or other external drive(s).

Only after you have done this, should you proceed. Microsoft offers an "Easy Transfer Wizard" but there are limitations of what it can do. The most significant of which is the INABILITY to move applications that were previously installed on the Windows XP machine. There is no program I know of that will move installed applications to a new computer and new OS. What it WILL do is move the DATA that was created by these programs; leaving you to reinstall the applications manually again in your new Windows 8 machine. It also moves your photos, music etc - but no applications.

You should download a version of the Wizard that is specific to the OS of your old machine - WinXP (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7349).

Here's a link that details the process: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/transfer-data-from-old-computer-to-windows-8

I hope this helps and good luck!

How to back up files before recovery

It sounds like your boot files are system files are corrupt. You really don't need to do a backup because you really don't need to do a recovery back to the original system when you purchased it out of the store. If you have a system disc you can just repair the boot files by inserting the system disk and rebooting from it. Then let the operating system do a repair by getting to a DOS (Command) Prompt and type in the following command: chkdsk /r
It will run for an hour or more and you will notice the percentage of completion going from high to low but that is ok. Just let it run to completion. This process does not destroy your data.

Since you can't boot your system now as it is, there is no way to save your data other than removing the hard drive and slaving it to a working computer, then copy and save your data.

These guys can help you at: http://www.generalsystemsconsulting.com

They are very economical and will have a solution.

Doing a recovery will mean you will also have to reload all the programs you've installed since you purchased the computer and reload any printers, cameras, etc. that you've loaded since the original purchase. It's a mess. Try the repair option instead and save yourself the time and headache.

Computer hardrive

If your old hdd is a SATA drive you can install it as a secondary drive in your new computer. All you would need to do is install the drive, hookup the SATA data cable and power cable, & boot up. You can then move the data you need to your new hdd. If it is an older IDE drive you would need to set the jumpers to slave[sl] or cable select[cs] depending on what your new system requires. Hookup the ide ribbon cable and power cable from your power supply. Good luck & I hope this helps.

Need to reload windows xp on Emachines PC

Yes all you have to do is.........

Turn off the Computer
Turn back on and Press F11 repeatedly when the message "Press F11 to start recovery" is displayed.
The recovery will load and display a menu of options:

Full System Restore (with Backup): This options will move all Hard Disk contents to the "c:\My Backup" directory and install a new copy of Windows. This option preserves your existing data files, however all applications and settings will need to be reinstalled. This option requires 4GB of free Hard Disk space for the new OS.

Alway suggest backing up your data before you do any recovery

Do you sell a downlaodable file for system restore for a medion computer running XP home edition?

No . This is only an answer site to my knoledge.
PC Recovery and Piracy abstand_10423.gif abstand_10383.gif MEDION strongly supports efforts within the software industry to combat piracy, as it helps ensure that customers may confidently buy legal software.
When you acquired your new MEDION PC, MEDION provided you with an option that can be used if you need to recover the genuine Microsoft® operating system that has been preinstalled on your machine.

All of the recovery solutions will address the extremely rare instances of failure due to operating system file corruption or modification or hardware failure. In no way do these options limit your ability to add or remove new hardware and software to your PC, or limit your ability to make a backup copy of the operating system.

The recovery media options that MEDION provides for our variety of products are:

CD Media − which are often called "recovery CDs". This is a CD or DVD clearly marked with the PC Manufacturer's brand that can only be used on the PC you purchased. The media will be included as part of the materials you received at the time of purchase and will include all files necessary to restore the operating system on the PC.

Hard Drive-based Recovery System − Recovery files are placed on a separate partition of the hard drive that can be accessed if system recovery is needed. No CDs are needed and in most cases the PC can "heal" itself.

No Media − the PC does not include a recovery solution. In the event of a recovery situation, please contact the PC Manufacturer.

All MEDION computers that are preinstalled with a genuine Microsoft Windows operating system will have a Certificate of Authenticity attached to the PC chassis. For more details please click here.

If you have questions about the systems recovery option that is available with you machine, please contact: MEDION UK

I'm trying to locate my video card inside my PC. I have a Medion 7309c Model. Whenever I power my system unit on it goes through the boot process and then goes to a blank screen, so i believe that my video...

Most home user PC's of the last while now have onboard video cards so you would need a new motherboard if the video card were bad. Good news it it's likely that the system's drivers just failed. If you boot to safe mode with networking support you know it's just drivers. When booting with networking support you can find a new driver for your video card or even simply remove the video card from the device manager and reboot. Sometimes the latter works, as just a single file was corrupt and needed to be recopied. If this doesn't work you can start looking at the RAM (since thats technically your video memory). It can be as simple as a bad connection so you can just blow the slots out w/ an air compressor (canned air is too weak) and reseat the RAM. Otherwise test your RAM in someone else's system or get some RAM and try booting. Last of course is the motherboard which hopefully isn't the case for you.
