As DrWho_64 mentioned, you've probably activated the logon prompt somehow. But since you tried jonesspammai's method and didn't work, It seems that your user account's password has been set. So all you have to do is perform password reset. Here's how to reset your password:

Sounds to me like you activated the Windows Dragon. Yes, it actually called Dragon. Its the enterprise or domain logon prompt. The only time I've seen this happen to people is when they try to install Windows XP Pro over a Windows XP Home installation or they attempt to repair a faulting installation of Home with an XP Pro disc.
Is this your situation? If it is, it's ok and we can make Windows go back to the User Icons instead of the Network Logon prompt which you now have (at least thats what it sounds like you're looking at).
So, first question I need to have answered is this: Are you using the Dell discs to reinstall from or are you using an XP install disc? The Dell discs that came with your computer are the ones you should be using.
Either way, changing the way you login is fairly simple.
First, you will need to login as the Administrator or as a user with administrator privileges, in order to make this change.
