KICKER KX350.4 sound fading in and out

My amp fell over in the trunk one day and the sound went out, now the sound is very low then fades out then back in...the green power and red protection lights are alternating. i replaced the fuse at the battery and checked the connections. i dont know whats wrong, is this amp toast?

im running this amp and a monoblock sub amp and a 1 farad cap with 0 and 4 gauge wire. (0 ga from battery to distributor, 4 ga to the amps)

Does the amp continue to go into protection if you disconnect the speaker wires from the speaker terminals?

It sounds like the amp may have shorted output transistors. If that's the case, they would need to be replaced to get the amp working again. If you're interested in changing them yourself, the following page provides basic information. Let me know if you have any questions.

It is likely that your amplifier is going into thermal shutdown repeatedly because the output is shorted or the speaker impedance may be too low or for some other reason such as component breakdown.

Hello danijuls,

If the sub is a 2ohm version and you have the dual voice coils wired in parallel, the impedance load is 1 ohm, too low for the ZX400.1 which needs a minimum of a 2ohm load. This would definitely cause it to heat up and go into protection.

But yes, if the sub is wired for an impedance load that the amp can handle, it's possible that the amp is not getting enough power. Check all of the connections and make sure that there is no rust or corrosion on the wire ends or terminals. Remove it if there is. Cut a little bit of the end off of the wires and re-terminate. Check both ends of the primary fuseholder. And don't forget the ground connections.

Hope this helps.

Amp problem

depends on what subs you are using that amp puts out a max rms of 150 watts x 2 no kicker brand sub will run of that low of power. the fading you are hearing sounds like the amp is being overdriven and it is hard clipping because it doesnt have enough power for the subs. that amp is designed for mids and highs.

Lights on dash fade, also trunk/gas lever won't operate

The fuse in postion 32 (15 Amp) in the box under the dash by the steering wheel also powers your cigarette lighter and radio also powers the clock. If only the clock is dead then it is not a fuse issue. This is a very common problem with the 96-05 Corolla clocks. The clocks are very prone to internal failure. There is a bunch of useful info there. Drop me an email if you have questions, thanks!
