Hello Wright and welcome to FixYa. You mentioned you saw an orange light. The PS3 system only displays green, yellow and red so I'm going to assume you saw a yellow light. Based off the information you provided it sounds as if your system update software was corrupted. Since the PSN is currently down I also have to assume you were updating via a USB stick. If you can get your PS3 to restart I would redownload the update again from playstation.com directly and retry if you cannot get your PS3 to restart then it is most likely bricked and will need to be sent to Sony for repair. Let's hope you can restart the console. Wright I wish you the best of luck and I hope I was helpful.
This is the yellow light of death i got it some time ago and had to buy a new ps3 there is a way to fix it but i costs more than a new ps3 i had to buy a new one so your screw lol.
From what I understand its a problem with the backwards compatibililty(the engine/drive that lets you play ps1/ps2 games)on the 60g.Sony says they have never heard of this problem yet these models are no longer in production.I have had mine for 2 years and it died today, same problem.
