Question about Apex Digital AD-3201 DVD Player

1 Answer

NO dISC Always Returned No Matter The Media.

I Have Opened The Unit, And Cleaned The Laser.
Mounting Spring Is Still Functional, Everything Moves Fluidly.

Slide Rails Are Well Lubricated, There Is No Traction Resistance Through The Motions.

All Ribbon Cables Are Connected Properly, Both Standard And Micro Inside The Drive Itself.

Again, The Unit Is APEX AD-3201. Purchased New In December 07, Worked For A Few Weeks And Was Handed To Me As "broken" LoL..

I had this same problem with my Apex AD-500W DVD Player. I decided since everyone said the player basically needed to be replaced it wouldn't hurt to go through the buttons on the remote just to try and figure it out......I DID!!!! I turned on my DVD Player, inserted a disc, turned on my tv and then hit the SYSTEM Button right below the power button until the screen said MULTI and the machine started working perfectly. There are 3 settings in that button, PAL which made my screen go crazy, NTSC ( i have no clue) and MULTI(this one made it work)! Hope it also works for all of you!!!

My sylvania portable DVD player won't read discs the display says No Disc after the spin. What do I do?

I had same problem with a sylvania portable DVD: no disc. After cleaning the laser didn't work, I took the unit apart, and found that there is a small gear that moves the laser back and forth across the disc.. The gear could easily be misaligned with a rough bump along the drive.. All I did was realign the gear to the center where the disc was. Inside, there was even a small lever to pull back on to do this.. I also noticed a small Ribbon cable connecting the laser to the main board. Again, seemed nimble. I detached the ribbon, cleaned the connectors with alcohol and reattached. Happy to say, it works perfectly now. :). Good luck.

My DVD player has played fine until today. Now no matter what DVD I put in, it just keeps saying on my TV screen, "This Disc Cannot Be Played". What should I do? Thank you for your...

Do you have a lens cleaning disc, if so play it. That should do the job. Also confirm if it plays audio Cd's. If it plays audio CD's it will confirm that the loading tray is Ok and all the motors are functional.
All DVD players use a dual laser pick up. One is for Audio CD's / VCD's/MP3 and the other is for DVD. If you have been playing more than 1000 hours of DVD the laser unit itself could have failed. Any try the cleaning disc first. A replacement laser unit could cost you 20$ plus service charges.

No matter what kind of disc is put into my DVR 1600 Recorder, a "no disc" message is given

Ok, in my experience over the years, most often when this type of problem exists it is always the laser unit, and or the quadrant detector, essentially the "Laser Head Assembly", this has faulted. (Or the associated drive circuitry).
Replacement is your only option.

If you wish to have it repaired, please ask for a 'Quote" before proceeding with any repair work.

My HDD/DVD recorder will not format discs.

You can format only RW disks. If you are using R (recordable only once) disks you don't need to format them, just burn directly the movies.

Won't read the disc

The laser can not read the disk
· Bad spindle motor or spindle height which is what spins the cd
· Transverse motor \gear this is the motor that moves back and forth to read the different groves in the cd some what like a album does.
· Laser is bad or week

No disc

Maybe you have dirty lens! clean the lens with 100% cotton then slightly rub the lens at clockwise movement! or you have defective flex ribbon wire or laser eye!

Will not initialize a new disk; often freezes up when trying.

Hello, I would suggest opening the unit & cleaning the lens with a cotton swab lightly soaked with rubbing alcohol. Especially if it has been used in an enviroment wich is dusty or the unit has been smoked around. Also, are you using the same type of discs, Some discs are better quality than others try using Imation they read in almost anything. Also if you do have to clean the lens you may want to lighty lubricate the rails the laser moves on using a drop or two of 3in1 oil per rail.

If it still will not work then I would say that the laser pickup is failling. Specificly the laser used for burning the disc, Since there are usually two lasers one for burning & one for playback.
