Canon Powershot A570 keeps showing change the batteries

I had the same problem. Here's the solution. Go into menu settings, then over to tools, select reset all at the bottom of options list. You may have to re-enter the date and time. This solved the low battery problem for me. I hope this helps.

How do I use the self timer on my PowerShot A570 IS camera? Please help...

Press the Center Button

By pressing the center button on the four-way controller, you'll open up the Function menu. This menu has the following options:
  • ISO speed (Auto, High ISO Auto, 80, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600) - see below
  • White balance (Auto, daylight, cloudy, tungsten, fluorescent, fluorescent H, underwater, custom) - see below
  • Drive (Single-shot, continuous, 2 or 10 sec self-timer, custom self-timer)
  • My Colors (Off, vivid, neutral, sepia, black & white, custom color) - see below
  • Flash compensation (-2EV to +2EV in 1/3EV increments) + flash output (1/3, 2/3, full) - this last item is only available in manual mode
  • Metering mode (Evaluative, center-weighted, spot)
  • Compression (see chart later in review)
  • Resolution (see chart later in review)

The Third Option is Having Self Timer ..... Check

Blank LCD screen on shooting mode, but does show settings. Will not take pictures. Replaying mode works, shows pictures taken before screen went blank. New batteries. What is going on??? Is it...

The Display button manually turns the LCD display on or off to save batteries. If you accidentally had turned the LCD off, It should only take one press of the button to turn it back on and leave it that way. As such, it's not you but the camera. The A570 IS is relatively new. Your camera is likely still under warranty. If so, contact Canon for warranty repair (see the following link):

Canon Powershot A570IS Problem

I have seen the same problem with my A570 IS. When pointing to a window or in an outdoor environment the iris within the lens closes completely within ~3 steps (look at the lens when pointing to the window). Therefor it is not a LCD issue at all. The fact that you can still take a photo with a closed lens rather suggests that the iris controlling software is corrupt. This will most likely just require a firmware update.I hope Canon will soon provide the software online.
