Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Macbook Warranty I bought my Macbook 14 days ago and I want to add on the warranty.  When I bought the computer, the Apple representative told me that I could purchase this anytime online.  I attempted to do so, but I see that I am to go to the store or call customer service.  The store is closed now, as it is approximately 9:30pm, so I called customer service.  I was told that the department I need to purchase the warranty is now closed and that I will need to wait until tomorrow.  This means that it will be past the 14 day period.  Will I miss out on the warranty because I was misinformed by one of your representatives??

One thing that helps Apple stand out from the rest is that anytime within your one-year warranty period you can add AppleCare (their service plan) onto it. So don't fret. You're in good hands.

My Friend bought a Dell insparian 1545 laptop and one day a cup of tea feel down on touch pad integrated mouse. Touchpad mouse stopped working after that. She had bought the laptop on 10th December, 2009....

She will have to take it to a repair shop and have the touchpad replaced. This is going to cost her about $200, since the warranty has expired a few days ago. Unless of course she had got extra warranty, in that case it will be free.

Acer Aspire 150 - bought new 18 months ago and have been told that the motherboard has gone. Is this reasonable and has anyone else had a similar probelm and if so what did you do about it?

Is this reasonable? - no, but possible, yes. I have seen plenty of electronics go bad just a week or two past the warranty, including computers. Unfortunately, about all you can do about it is 1) get a new motherboard installed, or 2) get a new computer and this time buy the extended warranty. By the way, whoever installs your motherboard should be able to easily get your documents/files from the hard drive. You will need to reinstall Windows, and a new motherboard/processor will require a new installation. Just putting the hard drive back in will produce the "blue screen of death" just so you know ahead of time.

My eee pc netbook is staying on a black screen when I press power and making a clicking noise. It will not boot. I can hear a wheel or something circular inside spinning and clicking and squealing. It has...

It's the disk-drive (or the CD/DVD drive) that is spinning, and is making the noise.

Best Buy would replace it, within the first 14 days, i.e., take your netbook, and give you a new one.

The other 50-weeks of the 52-week warranty are still in effect -- they should fix it, at their cost, to honour the warranty. Probably, the quickest way to "fix" it is to replace it. Otherwise, they will disassemble it, replace the disk-drive, reinstall Windows, and give it back to you, at no cost to you.

A thin line appears in the display

It could be the video card or the LCD display is going bad. I would suggest contacting HP support regarding this matter. Hopefully you registered it with them when you bought it. Most computers have a one year warranty from the manufacturer. Did you buy an extended warranty with this machine? If you have an extended warranty from the place you bought it, contact them.

The screen on my husband xps 1330 turns to lines. The computer is just a few days over a year old. I belive that this is a common problem with this computer. Please can you let me know what can be done to...

Yes, this is a very common problem with the M1330 due to a flaw in the Nvidea graphics processor chip. It also affects laptops from several other manufacturers, including some models of Apple laptops. The chip overheats and fails. Dell has supposedly extended warranty coverage by an extra year for this particular problem only. My daughter's M1330 was repaired under warranty for this issue. See here for more information:

HP has shipped some bad notebooks and has what they call "Enhanced Warranty Program" if your laptop falls into this category you may qualify for a free repair from HP.
Please see the following link and read all information carefully to see if you qualify for this warranty:

Laptop Gateway mx8711

Gateway laptop is really ****.
I bought Gateway MX8711 in March 2007, after 6 months i use it...the hard disk failed.
Gateway replaced a new Hitachi hard disk for me but not more than 8 months and it failed again.
Gateway told me that i have no more warranty because the repair warranty is only 90 days.
I bought this laptop and use it not more than 2 years, the hard disk was failed twice.
Usually Hard disk manufacturer provided 3 years warranty for the hard disk. The manufacturer year of the hard disk is May 2007....they should able to help because the har disk not more than a year being used...but they don't. This is really bad customer service and not fair to the buyer.
I will not buy any Gateway products anymore....i swear.

If your warranty is through best buy, you must go through best buy for your warranty or support issues. It does not matter what computer make or model you purchase from them.
