Question about Panasonic PT-53X54 53" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
My Panasonic PT-53X54J just started flashing red on the power light when it was plugged in. When you actually hit the power button you could see light from inside the set. I removed the cover so that I could see exactly what was happening when the power switch was turned on.
In the near right hand corner of the cirrcuit board on the right there is a black rectangular device that is fastened to the side of a steel L-shaped divider. It appears to be glued to the side of the steel, plus there is bracket attached to the black rectangular device held by a screw on the top. The black rectangular device appears to have 3 leads soldered into the board.
Anyway, when the TV is plugged in nothing happens to this device, but when the power switch is pushed this device has what appears to be blue flame that shoots out the bottom and side of the black rectangular device.
My questions are: What is the device and can I replace it myself with a soldering iron? Will that solve the problem or is something else causing this to flame out?
Thank you for any help you can provide.
