Hi slowjam I am assuming it is a Natural Gas Heater. All it needs is a good blow out with compressed air. They tend to carbon up in the pilot light area. You will probably also find it is very dusty inside. Easiest way to clean the carbon out is to remove the hose at the heater and with compressed air blow through the fitting where you have removed the hose. Make sure you hold down the start button so the air can get through to the pilot light and jets. Don't connect the electricity for the fan when you do this. If you can get to the pilot light may pay you to hit it with some compressed air as well. Hope this helps. Regards Bryan

I have a vanguard model VP 30 BTB it runs for a couple minutes and turns off even the pilot light goes off it has plenty of oxygen, SS number WP 07083R3 built July 7, 2007

mentioned PILOT are you getting a good flame there. usually when they go out it shuts off main fuel so fix the pilot of the thermocouple to/from it and you might have problem solved . Have seen simple things like a spider web foul the gas flow.

Your DESA/Vanguard Vent-free, Blue Flame Heater has a pilot assembly that is equipped with and Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS) . When this becomes clogged with dust, lint, spider web, etc, the pilot may light and burn for a few minutes, but will soon shut down. As the ODS senses that there is not enough oxygen for safe combustion. This mimics a faulty thermocouple. A good indication that the pilot is dirty, is when the pilot flame curls upward and looses contact with the thermocouple. Cleaning the pilot and it's ODS with canned air and a straw nozzle (like you clean your compute with) should solve the problem.

To further help you, I have included a link to the Owner's Manual for your Model, as well as a link to how to clean the pilot & ODS

Vanguard wall heater pilot will light but when to turn on heat it goes out. Thermocoupler??

This is a very good possibility and depending upon the year they may call this part a flame generator. So ask for both when purchasing. Before you run out and purchase this take five minutes and try this, I use steel wool or light grit sand paper and clean up the bulb end of the thermocouple then place it top center of the flame as this is the hottest area of the flame, now with a small wrench check to see that it is tight in the gas valve. Now try lighting the pilot and then the furnace. Some times a simple cleaning and tightening can cure this problem. If not now you can go and purchase a new one.

I was given a VANGUARD unvented heater model # CFP2800BTB/VP2800BTB. Any manual downloads for this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Susie

Hello,
Vanguard heaters were made by a company called Desa Int'l, which unfortunately, went out of business. I have installed a lot of these over the past 20 years, is there anything I can help you with? Did your heater come with the long metal hanging bracket? There is a rectangular metal blank on the back of these you can knock out and install an electric blower inside. These heaters are not field serviceable, meaning if you got a natural gas heater and want to use it for LP-gas, you can't convert it, and vice-versa. Let me know if I can help. Douglas

Have a model up26t serial#010782007,lights and burns good for 10 minutes or so. Then you here a click up in the control area and it shuts flame and pilot light off. If you wait a little while you will hear...

The manufacturer has a website (www.desatech.com ), they list part distributors on that site this should help you in your search. It should like you need to replace the thermocouple or the ODS pilot assembly... this is the most common problem with these units. I think your model must be a VP26T if is a Vanguard unit?

Burner keeps going out

It might be the ODS Pilot Assembly. It could be clogged with dust or lint.
It might be low gas pressure.
It could also be the pressure regulator.
