Question about Printers & Copiers

2 Answers

My Lexmark cartridge, over half full and only 3-4 months old, has malfunctioned. The printer reported that the printhead was blocked. A new cartridge works fine, but I have wasted about $20 of cartridge. I didn't keep the invoice, but still have the cartridge.

Did you run the Maintenance feature that is part of the printer's program?

If not, open the Maintenance page and select Head Cleaning. This cleans the head by pushing through a lot of ink thereby dissolving any dried ink that is blocking the heads. Run a Print check to tell if the heads are properly cleaned (this cleaning may need to be repeated a few times before the heads are cleaned properly).

Good luck.

Printhead problem error message

I had the same problem with mylb_icon1.png S605!! Although at the time it was 18 months old.
Reading various blogs on the internet, this seems to be a common problem. Other users reporting it to Lexmark seem to get replacement printheads, sometimes more than one. Others get their machine replaced! Lexmark sent me two replacement heads before the problem was resolved.
After having read all these negative reports my advice to you is to return it to your vendor and ask for it to be replaced with another machine from a different manufacturer.
Lexmark machines seem to have a constant ongoing problem with their printheads (for years).
Sorry to be so negative but you and I have bought ourselves a load of trouble.
Good luck
Ron

The printhead on the cartridge could be damaged thus the reason why the printer is giving our an error message. That said, the cartridge would need to be replaced.

Make sure to purchase genuine Lexmark cartridges. Refilled/remanufactured cartridges could damage your printer.

My printer Brother DCP 165C cannot print in black ink.

Your black printhead is blocked.
The printhead is deep inside the printer and has to be taken out by the expert and cleaned with the help of 'steam' and hot water. This is because not using the printer for a long time. or using low grade refill inks.
Please select new cartridge only if you are inserting a new cartridge or fully refilled cartridge. Otherwise use old cartridge option. Brother printer has a mechanical sensor and not the electronic chip in the ink cartridges.
After inserting the old used cartridge if you choose 'new cart' option it will show the "Full" ink. You can still print from the exhausted ink cart after covering the sensor in the middle by a piece of paper in emergency.

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink or toner cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridges that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks or toner causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead or photo conductors.
If you are using factory new ink or toner cartridges, then please call the manufacturer’s Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

My printer stood unused for about 8 months. Then

Remove all the cartridges from the printer and check for expiration date on the cartridges, if the cartridges are expired, you need to replace them with HP genuine, use of refilled one's cause many issues. The cartridge that is compatible with this printer is HP 14 black and HP 14 tricolor.
To align the printheads at any other time:
  1. Press Menu .
  2. Press 7 , then 3 . (For the HP Officejet D 125xi press 3 , then 3 again)A page prints to confirm printhead alignment.

Canon IP90 portable . No ink printing.

Have you performed a nozzle test? If one or more of the colors is missing when you do the nozzle test, the printhead itself is likely in need of replacement.

Before considering replacment, perform a clean on the printer. Due to variations between mac and pc, please see your documentation / support files on how to perform the clean on your printer.

After performing the clean, again perform the nozzle check to see if the problem is resolved.

If still not resolved, remove and re-install any cartridges you recently replaced to make certain they are installed correctly.

PGI5BK Ink tank not recognized on MP600

You say the "original" is 3 months old? You are out of ink. Replace the cartridge. Even when there is still a little ink in the "tank" it reports back to the printer as empty. And yes it will go through all its checks and still show empty. They don't last forever even if you don't use the printer. The ink evaporates out over time.
