Don't know what model machine you have but many models will stop if the correct water level is not reached within a certain amount of time. You need to check if the water main is turned on, if the hose inlets filters are not clogged and finally if there is power to the water valves.

Chances are that you have a bad door switch assembly, which is on the right-hand side of the door opening behind the panel (Looks like two dark holes). Or secondly a bad striker (a two finger-like looking part on the door, which pushes and activates the switch when you close the door. Make sure they are not broken. Over time the switch will go bad. These are the causes of most won't start problems. Someone that has some electrical knowledge would have to meter the switch to verify this is the problem on your washer to be 100% certain. The switch runs about $100. The striker plate runs about $15. Please let me know if this helps.

How do i open the door after mid cycle failure

First switch off the machine and then switch off at the wall and on again and try the pump out position on the programme dial, usually near the end of the various cycles and if that fails switch the machine off at the wall and wait for a few minutes. But be careful if the water level is up to the door and make sure you have a few towels handy to stop water flooding out when you open the door. In fact, open the door a tiny bit first to see if there is a lot of water in it, then gradually allow the water to come out a bit at a time, shutting the door as you squeeze out the towels into a bucket. Good luck.

Cold water good for a few minutes then slows to a trickle. Shut off for a few hours and cold water good again for a few minutes. Inlets are clear. Is this normal behaviour for a dying valve?

Yes, it will fail soon. it is beat to go ahead a order a new inlet valve assembly asap. the pressure sensors that are housed in the valve assembly are failing.

Shutting down on rinse cycle

Hi this could means that you may need to replace the washing machine bearings. Once the bearings are bad, the motor overheats and it will automatically shut down after the first rinse.

Washer won't start a cycle

Try some WD40 on the machine door mechanism, not on the door; & open/close the door while the machine switch is off, for the mech to become free.
