Question about ASUS P5NT WS (P5NT WS GREEN) Motherboard

1 Answer

ASUS P5N T

I have all kinds of problems with this new MB. It will work fine for some time, but when I reboot next day, it comes up with problems. It cant find boot files and asks for original Windows XP CD's When I try to reboot, it will boot fine, and work for some time. Then it will reboot on its own. I have checked all connections and have reinstalled Windows (4 times) I continue to have theese problems.

My MB is onlytwo months old. What should I do with it? Send it back for exchange/repairs? I no longer trust this MB and the writeups in your forums are not someting to look forward to. I apreciate your prompt input for I now have a sporadic working/ entirely unreliable pc.

First of all disconnect the Hard Disk do a check of switching on your comp and leaving it in on condition till you switch it off , repeat this exercise to ensure that there are no hardware problems . If your checks yield positive results then all you have to do is clean your hard disk thoroughly of any prevoius installations using the hard disk prep tools which you can download or obtain from vendor and then reinstall the OS .

Yes as long as the 9800gtx is PCI Express x16. I am assuming the p5n-e is the Asus MB. Since I couldn't find any other Manufacturer using that MB#

P5N-SLI

HI stukove2000,
What is the 5200 stand for?
Here is Asus approved CPU list link for the P5N-E SLI MB:
http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5N-E%20SLI

The Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 5-5-5-15, should work just fine on the Asus MB.
Here is an expanded approved Qualified Venders List from Asus.
http://www.asus.com/999/download/products/1474/1474_10.pdf
You can also see a smaller QVL list in the manual on page 1-18 & 1-19.
The QVL insures total compatibility with the motherboard.

The NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT will run just fine on the Asus MB. Just make sure your power supply is no less than 500W. A 600W or 650W is preferred.

Here is a write up of the Asus mother board: http://www.techspot.com/review/43-asus-p5n-e-sli/
Asus FAQ's of the P5N-E SLI. Good place to check questions about the board.

Good luck stukove2000!

Clarification Request

Hi jlg371,
Did you know that Asus warrants their boards for three years?
Why buy a new board when you can have yours' replaced by Asus!
While inside your case, look at the parallel port. There is a white sticker there. Write down the information onto a piece of paper. Call Asus tech at: 1-812-282-2787 M-F 8:00AM to 5:00PM EST.
It’s best to call in the morning. Get a case number from Asus. The way this works is you'll strip the board including the CPU. Box it & ship it back to Asus. You pay to ship it to Asus. (Signature Requested)!
Asus pays to ship back to you. Expect 2 weeks, 10 working days (Min) to pass before Asus ships your MB back to you.

Good luck jlg371!

Asus P5N-E SLI Mobo will not boot or post.

Hi bart, please re-check you're memory. See page 1-17 in you're user manual. (Read everything)!
You're Asus board can not use 184-pin DDR DIMM's.
Also check the QVL list for supported memory page's 1-18 & 1-19.
I did not see Corsair on either page.
You're board can only use 240-pin DDR2 memory. Please read the "Notes" at the top of page 1-18.
If everything (Regarding memory) is within the Asus specifications than clear the cmos/bios & re-boot again. If you're system still does not boot than remove one DIMM & try again.
Asus warrants their boards for three years. Call Asus tech at
1-812-282-2787 EST, IL 8:00AM to 5:00PM. The call is on you but the service is free. It's worth every dime.

Good Luck & Kind Regards.
Would you be kind enough to let me know what Asus suggested? (If it comes to that).

Mike

Motherboard

I would start by process of elimination.
  1. Disconnect power cord
  2. open case
  3. remove button cell battery from motherboard
  4. press power on button to dissipate any stray voltage.
  5. re-install button cell battery.
  6. re-connect power cord
  7. power up pc.
If everything powers up ok and you get a CMOS checksum error, then enter bios set date, time etc. and go.

if the power on self test comes on and still no keyboard, mouse, video etc and no beeps. It may be your board or the processor.
