Question about Pioneer Premier DEH-P960MP CD Player

2 Answers

Premier deh-p960mp First off I bought this unit refurbished and it worked fine for about a year since then I have replaced the flex ribbon cable twice, and each time after about a month of working fine it will start acting up sometimes playing and not sometimes. After that goes on for a while the faceplate itself wont open or anything untill I replace the flex ribbon cable with a new one. Could there be something else that is wrong with the unit besides the flex ribbon cable that I am overlooking???

Pioneer isn't selling the part with instructions for install. I was able to get the part but don't have the instructions to install.

I would suggest to double check all your wiring connections and the flex could part of the intermittent functionality as well but changing twice in a year already, I will say that there could be some loose wiring connections at the back of your device.
If you open the device and check for loose solder joints where the wires connect to the back of your stereo.

My pioneer deh-p960mp the screen behind the faceplate went out, what do i need to fix it ??

You need a ribbon cable replacement to the faceplate at the very least.

It's my understanding that there is an ribbon cable that needs to be replaced - it's Pioneer CNP6498 flex cable (CN871 to CN1801) at pacparts.com. Price is less than $9.00, but shipping there is crippling to say the least ($11.50 - WTF??!?!?!)

IF you find that the detachable faceplate also does not work, there is an additional ribbon cable that needs to be replaced. Try "DEH-P960MP" on ebay and you can find a replacement for less than $30 shipped. I received mine in 2 days and had it up and running within 20 minutes. It solved the problem.

IF you find that the upper face (with the OEL display) also does not work, it's my understanding that there is an additional ribbon cable that needs to be replaced - it's Pioneer CNP6498 flex cable (CN871 to CN1801) at pacparts.com. Price is less than $9.00, but shipping there is crippling to say the least ($11.50 - WTF??!?!?!)

Face plate doing the same.

it needs a flexible pcb (the one that connects the face to the main board) it's a common fault on these units, you see every time you power the radio the fascia rotates and therefore flexes the connector and after time the pcb starts to break some of the connectors. If you feel confident enough the flexible pcb's are not too difficult to replace if you can get a replacement.
