This happens because the XP install disk doesn't have a generic SATA driver. You can do 2 things: either manually load the SATA driver at the beginning of the install (when notified) or go into the BIOS and set the disks to behave as IDE disks.

Can't install xp

Are you receiving any error messages when you try to install Windows XP?
If it is not detecting your Hard Disk follow the steps below:
Go into the BIOS setup (press f10 during boot process), System configuration and disable SATA Native Support. Try installing XP again and it should see your hard drive.

Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration...

you didn't post the make and model of the system, but on most modern systems, this error occurs when the Hard Drive Controller for the system doesn't have a native driver on the Windows install CD. So you need to load the driver during the install. In XP this is done via a Floppy Diskette (XP setup will not recognise a USB Drive) Vista you can install from just about any drive (USB Flash drive generally easiest)

Asus k8n-e when xp strat loading the sytem reboots automaticaly

There are two Asus K8N-E MB models;
http://www.asus.com/Search.aspx?SearchKey=K8N-E
Chances are there was a problem during the installation of windows XP. Or there is an issue with your hard disk drive. During boot up, press the F5 key every 2 seconds. Windows Advanced Option Menu will load. From the list highlight, Safe Mode with Command Prompt & press enter. Type the command, C: space fixmbr & "press enter". Wait a few seconds for fixmbr to run.
Than press ctrl+alt+delete to reboot your system. If windows still restarts you will need to reinstall windows XP. A Fresh install is preferred. Running windows repair can make matters worse. Every hard disk drive manufacture has software to setup their drives. Example: If your hard disk drive is made by Seagate, go to Seagate’s web site & download their setup software. Download SeaTools for DOS now!
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools/
Instructions are included on the site.
Here is the link for Samsung; http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/
For Western Digital;
http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?lang=en
Use the manufacture’s software to setup your hard disk drive before installing Windows XP.

Cheers!

Hard disk not found error during Clean XP home Install

That happens because the BIOS uses a SATA controller that is not included in Windows XP install disk.

Usually you can solve the problem going to BIOS settings and changing SATA/RAID settings.Check your BIOS settings, and disable SATA RAID mode.This is done in different ways depending on the BIOS.

On HP/Compaq computers for example you press F2 on startup to enter BIOS, then disable SATA mode on bios settings.
On other makes the procedure can be slightly different.

Another way to fix the problem, is by creating your own XP setup disk with SATA drivers included, see:
Resolving "Setup did not find any hard disk drives" during Windows .

Bought HP Pavilion dv2910tx,not able to install Windows XP. Help

If the install cannot detect the hard disk then the hard disk is faulty and needs replacing or the disk controller is faulty.
You can check if the hard disk is faulty by :-
Go into the BIOS and check if there a hard disk diagnostic.
If not then remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port.
If this computer see it as an external hard drive and you can view the contents of the drive then it is OK and the fault is the disk controller on the laptop.
To setup XP.
You insert the Windows CD and boot up the laptop with the CD.
You have done this correctly to get the hard disk error message.

Hard disk Recognition problem

U are actually facing the same problem as "jackwilkinso". As my previous post: Windows XP does not come out to support SATA hard drive, because inside do not inclued the SATA driver, that why u cannot see the harddisk during the setup. What u can do is try to install the SATA supported OS like Windows Vista or Windows 7, or maybe can "forcely" put in the SATA driver in ur Windows XP setup CD.

When installing a new hard drive the system bios recognize the drive. However, when I start to install Windows XP, the program does not see the drive as being present. How can I get the computer started...

What type of hard drive is it. Sound like you put in a SATA hard drive. You need to load the drivers for that hard drive. During the Windows XP setup it gives you an option to load 3rd party drivers that what is sounds like you need to to.
