Power supply doesn`t work

The power supply doesn`t seem to work unless I wiggle the wire about. I have bought 2 new power supplies and its exactly the same. I have had a look at the power connector inside the computer and it looks fine. Can you give me any ideas as to what the problem may be. Thank you for your help.
Kind regards.

IS SONY SPEAKER VGP SP1 INPUT CONNECTION DIFFERENT FROM VGP SP2 SPEAKER CONNECTION

There may be many different power supplies that will work for your speaker system, but they must comply with the following:
1. The output voltage of the power supply should be correct as what the speaker system requires. (seems like 12 V in your case)
2. The specified maximum current output of the power supply should always be a higher value than the Amperage spec of the speaker system.
3. The output wires or pins of the plug on the power supply should correspond to the (+) and (-) on the power input of the speaker system.

A multimeter will come in handy to determine a power supply's output voltage and polarity.

My hp does no detect power plug but works on batery

Hi, First you need to establish if it is the power supply or the computer that is at fault. First, verify that the power supply is functional with a voltmeter or another computer. Second, assuming that it is OK, (always remove the battery when troubleshooting power feed problems) connect the power supply to the computer and wiggle the plug lightly all the while pressing on the power button to see it you can establish contact and start the computer. Usually the jack in the computer becomes defective when one of its wires cuts near the jack. This wire can be resoldered or the complete jack
assembly replaced.

My dell latitude d630 will power on when I push the button, but nothing happens. The screen illuminates a bit and that's it. What can be the problem?

what happens when you try to connect to an external monitor? you may have a bad back light power inverter. how old are your batteries? in some cases if the batter pack isn't holding a charge then it may put a load on the power supply.
if you connect an external monitor and it stays on then it is a bad back light inverter. if it does the same thing then you may have a power supply problem. i forgot to ask if the laptop has been dropped or fell off a table, chair, bed, or desk? how is the power plug that plugs into the laptop? you also may have bad power jack!
3 things that may be bad or defective:
1) power jack
2) inverter board (i'm thinking this your problem)
3) batteries or internal power supply
items 1 and 2 can be fixed, but if it is a battery(s) or bad internal power supply. replacement batteries are about $50 and up, replacement laptop mother board it may be cheaper to buy a new/used laptop. however, you would want to save your data on this laptop if you can or someone do it for you.
i have worked on Dell computers for 10 + years out of my own repair and custom shop.
oops almost forgot with the new hd tv's there is a "PC Input" on the back where you can connect your computer or laptop to!! so if the lcd screen doesn't work and you cannot afford a replacement back light inverter board($120) then spend $15 or less for a male plug to connect your laptop to your lcd hdtv .
but doing this you will loose portability unless replace the inverter board!

Hello my laptop will not tun on when i slide thepower switch. HELP ME PLASE. PLEASE Thank you VERY MUCH

Check for voltage at the tip of the power connector.
If there's power there, try removing the battery and powering it up.
If that doesn't work, you can try a new power supply, but get a written guarantee that if the unit doesn't work, that you can return it.
If a new power supply doesn't fix the issue, even with a new power supply, then chances are unless you are an electronics technician/technologist, you aren't going to be able to repair the unit yourself.
Most places will want to replace your motherboard - don't use these shops.
Find a place like www.SuperTech-IT.com that does component level repairs and can evaluate and repair the motherboard rather than replacing it.

Power will not come on. I bought a new power cord

The power supply may be at fault. You can try testing the supply with a volt meter. However, this may be inaccurate because there is no load on the power supply.

You can try a friend's power supply or buy a universal power supply (usually cheaper than an OEM one).

You may also have a problem with the DC Jack. This is a common problem too. Try moving the tip of the power cord in the computer. Does it feel firm. Do the power lights come on and off. Unfortunately, DC Jack problem will require a professional.

Computer seems to have died..

Hi

Thank you for your query

Please try the following

1) Change the fuse in the power supply plug
2) Remove all cables and battery from the laptop and then hold down the power button for 20 seconds (thats right there will be no power to the laptop) - this is to destat the laptop
3) Retry
4) If te above fails then the faults are as follows

1)Loose DC jack - this can be tested by plugging your power supply in and wiggling the DC jack if it is loose it will move alot

2) Faulty motherboard/CPU

For both the above i would not recommned you do the repair yourself, but book into a reputable PC shop

If this has been useful please leave postive feedback/vote

HP Pavilion dv2020us laptop battery won't charge

How is your power supply? does it seem like you have to wiggle your cord that connects to computer to make it recieve power?...Many laptops power supply become loose over time form moving the cord around..when it does, the battery has a hard time getting electric power to recharge. Also, you my have other problems with your lithium internal battery that powers your cmos.

Check to see if your power supply is loose and go from there. the power supply is the little hole where you connect the cord to the laptop.

let me know what the status is

HP zd8000 laptop power supply

I found the solution - and implemented it, it works. The blue (ID) line needs to show 7.5v. The simple way to acheive this is to simply put a 47k resistor from the +19.5v line to the ID line. Apparently there is a pull down at the computer end that means it ends up at 7.5v.

I cut the cable about 6" from the old HP power supply. I then soldered a female power socket onto the loose cable and soldered the 47k resistor between the ID line and the +19.5 line. I then plugged this onto my two pin power supply and the plugged it into my computer. It works very nicely.

Not wishing to junk the HP power supply unecessarily - it was still producing the 19.5v - I then soldered a power plug onto that ignoring the ID line. That now works as well. It seems that the circuitry that provided the 7.5v ID voltage in the HP power supply became flakey. I could have just opened up the power supply (I have already done that) and disconnected the blue line from the circuit board and just tied it to the +ve line via the 47k resistor and then wrapped it with the usual insulating tape.

Compaq R4000 Power Issue

Actually you can basically get this repaired free From HP or send it out for a 3rd party repair and get reimbursed from HP for the repair. Weve repaired way too many of these to list and the Schottkey rectifier in the supply line as well as the DC jack should both be replaced. Go to www.hpnotebooksettlement.com and see if your SKU and serial fall into the paramiters. If you want to do yourself they can be a pain but there is a better jack to use Manned by the same company as the factory one, Post back if you need more help!
