If you know how to disassemble your PC, check all the connections from the video card, memory card etc. clean the part that you have removed then return it back again. if you're not sure disassembling it, bring it to a computer guy to help you.

I've got an Acer Travelmate 292LMI. My problem is: the notebook starts (leds on) for only a few seconds (I can see the acer display that preceeds the boot) but immediately it is dead. Only the AC leds...

It could be an overheating CPU problem.
When the CPU in the computer or laptopoverheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot upagain until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then theCPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes this problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged withdust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use acan of compressed air to do this.

I have no sound,no volume icon on taskbar, says no audio devic in the volume control menu.

This most likely means that your sound drivers are not installed. Go to Acer's support website and download the appropriate drivers, in which after this the sound should work.

Acer Travelmate beeps 4 times & wont boot

Sounds like a RAM problem. Best bet is to purchase a stick of RAM from a store that will let you try it and return it if the problem is not solved. The beeping is a BIOS error code that signifies that something is wrong with your hardware.

If you have 2 sticks of RAM installed try removing one of them and then if the beep code happens again try to swap them out.

Sounds like the inverter that poweres the backlight is dead. Search on eBay for the FL inverter for your model. Should be easy to replace.
